AGD/DZ DIRTY RUSH

Just did a little light stalking after someone said that the uga alpha gam page followed them, a pnm. AGD and DZ have both followed a bunch of girls with “UGA ‘24” in their bios... does this not seem super problematic to anyone else? I know it’s not technically dirty rush to just be following someone before the contact deadline cutoff but like... this can’t be good and it would make me feel super sad if I felt like a whole sorority wanted me and then they cut me during rush. I guess to the girls that are being followed, take it with a grain of salt and if during recruitment they make you uncomfortable, report them (any house, not just these 2) to panhellenic.
Anybody else have any other thoughts?

Wow I’m glad it’s not just me, last year DZ followed me before recruitment and I thought I was gonna go there all of recruitment and then they ended up dropping me before pref after bid promising me during house tours... nobody ever talks about them dirty rushing so I thought I was just overreacting

yes!! I’m worried about that too. I think it’s normal for active members to stalk and follow pnms (still kinda scary to me Bc I feel like I’m being watched haha) but I think it’s kinda weird if the official sorority account follows people.... AGD literally has a person on Panhellenic exec too so idk why they’d even risk that. I think they want pnms to have their houses on their radars during recruitment but i heard there are “bid lists” before recruitment. Is that true?

some top sororities do have rhymes and posters and all that for their top girls but they’re not “bid lists”, they’re just girls that have been recommended by girls inside the sorority or legacies and whatnot, they are just looking to get the chapter excited about these girls because they want the chapter to know them and keep an eye out, but it does not mean at all that they are guaranteed a bid. whereas some old row houses actually guarantee bids to girls before recruitment and (under usual circumstances) introduce them to the chapter over the summer (obv won’t be happening this summer).

the bid list thing is actually true and more sororities than you would think do it. my gamma chi even told me when i went trough recruitment that a lot of houses do and she wasn’t even top tier, more like mid. i would say all top - mid tier houses make bid lists. this doesn’t necessarily mean they dirty rush and tell those girls they are on the list(some do some dont) but the vast majority of houses have a bid list. even the houses without bid lists still have lists of girls they really want and that they put at the front on their lines and have talk to all the vp’s. i can only think of maybe 1 or 2 sororities who don’t do this.

I guess my question is how many spots go to girls on these bid lists that are preselected vs girls that they meet during rush?

it really depends. you can meet girls during rush that are on the “bid lists” and absolutely hate them or just not think they’re a good fit. there’s no say for how many of those spots are given to them or not, they still have to earn it. just cuz they’re on the list doesn’t mean they’ll get a bid. there’s so specific number game to it there

seriously. they aren't following to dirty rush. most likely they are following to make sure you don't post some dumb (#%& over the summer...and you wouldn't believe what some people post around graduation time. If you don't think every sorority is taking a look at your social media feed, you are wrong.

dude... why would literally a whole official sorority page follow you if they didn’t want to rush you hard? if they wanted to “check up on social media” you can have an individual active do that. this is super creepy and unprofessional on the part of alpha gam and dz.

yeah the official sorority should not be following pnms. my sorority’s insta didn’t even follow me until like 3 months ago lmfao. dz/alpha gam are looking at specific girls they want if they are following them from there, otherwise just like every other sorority they would have individuals searching & following just to look. i agree w @geez it’s super unprofessional and weird.

and the funny thing is a lot of the girls have public accounts. like you don’t need to be following them to “keep an eye on them” or whatever, i hope panhellenic takes action.

i think it’s important to remember that usually instas are only run by 2 or 3 girls, and ranks on here can also be about the opinion one girl or guy has about one girl, which gets generalized for the whole sorority. following is def odd but the actions of one girl with the insta password doesn’t represent a whole entire group of girls. as stressful as it is the best thing u can do for rush is to go into it open minded, and go wherever u feel fits best regardless, you’ll find ur home no matter what!

Yes, some houses do have bid lists. They write the names of all the girls they want on the wall in their house and make the sister learn rhymes about the girls to remember their names.
