sorority life at uga can be overwhelming and lonely

by:

I feel the same as some of the other people that have posted. I'm in another sorority that I WON'T Name. I feel like through recruitment until now the whole UGA process is terrible with sororities. I have more friends in some of the other sororities than my own. It seems very fake and competitive among girls and about other sororities. It seems so much about partying and getting with frat boys and I really wanted to have sisterhood and more friends.

So, I think college life has been a real adjustment for me too. I think you have to give it time. It is hard not knowing many people and getting used to everything. I'm a quiet person, so it has been tough, but I joined a sorority to get to know people. It is hard because with sororities being so big. There's a lot of girls I don't know, but some that are sweet and some that are self absorbed. It has been a real mix.

I think the key is to get involved early in the sorority with committee work and eventually leadership roles....
Involved people are always happier because they know more people and feel more connected to and needed by the group....this is true of life in general! Put in the effort and you will be much happier!

I relate to all of these sorority views. I'm in what is considered a "popular" sorority. It was hard at first, but what I realized is I will never be close to all of these girls or really know some of them. I have a few girls that I really enjoy and consider real friends. You have to accept that in these large groups that will be the case in ALL sororities.

You are absolutely right! Girls need to be realistic about what sorority life will do for them.. it is not the end all and be all...houses are just too big..
Feel fortunate if you make a few good friends and have some support through your short college years

I think this is so true everywhere. You just have to find your people and not be so concerned with the size of the group. Find out the part of the sorority that you like best and that you fit with the most. Maybe it is philanthropy, or planning for socials, etc.

Fall semester is intense. It's all new to you and the social scene is in highest gear. Spring is more laid back and you will have had more time to start solidifying a friend group. If you end up having a close group of 5 or so friends that you love and y'all stay together, then you will have succeeded at sorority life. Most of the members you're going to just be okay with, a smaller group you will find you have more in common with, a select few will become your posse, and honestly some of your sisters you will absolutely not be able to stand or respect. That's all normal for sorority life.
