rushing as an international student
by: intl
I'm an international transfer (sophomore) coming to UGA and I am trying to decide if I should go through recruitment. I've seen a few posts on here about rushing as OOS, but I was wondering specifically about international students. Do many of them rush?
I am worried about it because the high schools/university that I went to really didn't have many (if any) student involvement like clubs/sports/leadership positions etc so I feel like this will be looked down upon.
I also don't know anyone in greek life so my none of my rec letters would be personal so I don't know if that would also put me at a disadvantage. Are those things that sororities might take into consideration when it comes to international students?
I chose to transfer to a school in the US (and specifically UGA) because I wanted a school that I could get involved in and the opportunity to join greek life was a big factor for me, but now I'm wondering if its even worth it going through it because I feel like I'm in a very disadvantaged position compared to American students.
I don't care about rankings, but, realistically, what are the chances of getting a bid?

You will have a very good chance of getting a bid. There a several sororities that would be very interested in a cool girl from another country. If you aren't concerned about the sororities that already select girls they know, or are legacy types and just go through rush, you mind find a group you like. Do the letters, but don't worry too much about it, if you are flexible and just want to make friends.
