rushing as a sophomore

by:

I signed up for spring rush but am realizing I don't think I'm getting a bid so my best bet would be rushing next year. Is it weird rushing as a sophomore though? How does it work for uga and what are my chances

Hello, I rushed as a sophomore this past year. There were about 3 other sophomores in my gamma chi group, and I met a good amount of other sophomores during rush so it's definitely not weird. You won't be the only one. You'll have the same rush experience as freshman, but according to Panhellenic, sophomores are judged as a different group by the sororities. I've been told that being a sophomore is a disadvantage, which I think is true because most of the freshmen in my group got invited back to 9-12 sororities during round 2 whereas I only got invited back to 5. I ended up withdrawing but it was a fun experience. I'm planning on spring rushing this year.

Sophomores definitely have a disadvantage, but that definitely doesn’t mean you can’t get into a good sorority. It’s a tough process for sure, the freshman in my gamma chi group seemed to have it easier. But you definitely won’t be the only sophomore!!

you could continue with spring rush to get a good idea of those sororities participating and still plan on doing fall unless you totally fall in love

Sophomores who were already at UGA as freshman either have a huge advantage or a huge disadvantage- there’s almost no way you’ll have a fair shot at each house.

If you have good friends in sororities, then you’ll be prioritized at those houses and will have a pretty good rush. You’ll get invited back to houses where you have multiple girls pulling for you on the inside and get a bid from a house that way.

If you don’t have good friends in sororities, you’ll get cut from almost everywhere and rush will suck.

The reason is, all chapters have a small upperclassmen quota (7-9 girls usually). Once they meet that quota, they want to fill the remaining spots with freshman who will have more time in the chapter. Most sororities know at least a couple dozen upperclassmen PNMs who they can pick from for those spots, so they’re not going to consider the random person who’s been at UGA for a year and hasn’t met them yet.

If you rush as a sophomore and don’t have a couple houses that you’re pretty sure are pulling for you, you’re going to have a hard time.
