what are the national tiers?

by:

Can anyone tell me the tiers at the National level (NOT UGA)?

That's not something. SAE and Sig Chi are the two best national fraternities but that doesn't mean they're good at every school, they're just consistent. Sororities is maybe Chi O and Delta Gam. It really completely depends on the school

top 6 are Pi Phi, Kappa, Theta, Tri Delt, DG and Chi O.

There's some argument but a relatively uncontroversial one I've seen several times runs like this (no order in tiers)
SAE, SX
Fiji, Kappa Sig
Sigma Nu, Sig Ep, KA, Pike, Pi Kapp, DKE, Phi Delt, Lambda Chi
ATO, Beta, DTD, DX, Theta Chi, Phi Psi
These are all among the largest (except DKE) and strongest national fraternity chapters and all are very good and well known nationally. There are over 50 other national fraternities and some are also quite good, but any of the above are pretty solid choices as far as national prominence goes.

It really does vary tremendously by campus. SAE may be tops at one school and struggling to colonize or hold on at another. Eh, but for what it's worth, basic on administration, discipline and progressive programming, chapter support, expansion success, guys I know and may have worked with my national fraternity I say:

Beta Theta Pi
Sigma Phi Epsilon
Phi Gamma Delta
Sigma Chi
Alpha Gamma Rho
Kappa Sigma
Sigma Nu
FarmHouse
Alpha Tau Omega
Tau Kappa Epsilon
Theta Xi
Sigma Alpha Epsilon
Kappa Alpha
Pi Kappa Phi
Phi Kappa Tau
Phi Kappa Sigma
Psi Upsilon
Delta Tau Delta
Pi Kappa Alpha

This list and order is so random I don't even know where I should start. FH top 10? They have a total of just over 30 chapters nationally, so I'm not sure how that qualifies for expansion, and from what I've seen, they don't get ample chapter support for a relatively small fraternity. Psi Upsilon has maybe 30 active chapters, half of which are co-ed, so that doesn't really qualify as successful expansion or positive progressive programming. AGR just doesn't make sense in the top 5, and TKE is more like a how not to on chapter expansion, progressive programming, and especially chapter support. There's plenty more wrong, but really this list doesn't make any sense,

Disagree, a bit.

Among Greek Life professionals (IFC/student life advisors), university administators, etc., Beta Theta Pi, Phi Delta Theta, Phi Gamma Delta/Fiji, Sigma Chi, and Sigma Phi Epsilon are considered "model" fraternities.

That is not necessary an indicator of whether or not any of those fraternities are considered "top tier" or "respected" or "popular" on your campus.

At UGA, most would consider FIJI and Sigma Chi "upper" tier fraternities. SigEp would be close behind. Beta, in the upper 25% of so. Phi Delta, maybe a step or so behind, but not too far.

SAE, SX

Sigma Nu, Sig Ep, KA, ATO, Pi Kapp, DKE, Phi Delt, Lambda Chi
Pike, Beta, DTD, DX, Theta Chi, Phi Psi

Both pretty good. I feel like arguments can be made about Pike and ATO's exact placement, so these both seem acceptable.

Sorry but all of these comments are rubbish. There are no national tiers based on reputation. You can rank on numbers of members, amount raised for philanthropies, etc., but not on reputation. Any list is biased towards the reputations in the area the ranker is familiar with.

By: Current info
by: Based

On factors like number of chapters, undergraduate members, general strength from campus to campus, influential/famous alumni, etc. these really are fairly accurate. Obviously every fraternity and sorority's strength will vary from school to school, but based on more than simply reputation, these aren't too far off on those criteria.

Don't get me wrong, there are certainly other good ones. Chi Phi for instance is one of the oldest fraternities and is very good on a chapter basis but only have something like 50 chapters and doesn't have 6 Presidents and the first fraternity chapter founded in the South like DKE who are about the same size.

Yeah, you can say that some fraternities have more chapters or members, but "general strength" is not quantifiable. And every website likes a hundred or more "influential/famous" alums. Most are ones you never have heard of. Why don't you guys give it up and just be happy with your own house and forget trying to rule the nation.

Tons of very famous actors, musicians, athletes, state and federal congressmen and senators, US presidents, governors, Supreme Court justices and Fortune 500 CEOs populate the famous alumni lists of fraternities, lets not undersell it there haha.

XO, DDD, DG, Kappa, Pi Phi, Theta= National powerhouses. Can't pick one out for better than another.

ADPi, Alpha Phi, AXO, Zeta= Well known nationally, but slightly less than the top tiers.

AOPi, DZ, GPB, KD, Phi Mu, SK= Middle tier of nationals. Known but only in certain areas.

AEPhi, AZD, DPhiE, SDT, SSS= Heard of them, but weak nationally.

ASA, AST, PhiSS, ThetaPA= Sorry, who?

quite accurate. AGD would be in middle. AZD MAY be middle, but I really don't know. I can't argue with it though. Even groups that are top tier in the SEC are actually middle tier nationally. The ones on top and in the 2nd tier are definitely the ones with the most number of strong chapters, active alumni, tons of philanthropy involvement, and quite frankly money. That's what separates the top 2 levels from the middle, even though groups in the middle have super strong chapters some places.

Kappa, DDD and XO are also top tier SEC chapters like ADPi KD and Phi Mu. Honestly I'd move KD up one and AXiD up one (they're pretty much even with SK and AGD nationally).

what are you talking about? Gamma Phi Beta and Alpha Phi are definitely top tier nationally.
They both are one of the oldest sororities along with Theta, Phi Phi, DG, and Kappa.
Chi O and Tridelt were created after! Chi O and Tridelt are great sororites but are kind of a bigger deal in the south. Alpha Phi and G Phi might not be as big in some parts of the south, but overall they are very strong nationally.

by: If you

are talking about age, ADPi is the oldest, and are very strong in the South. Alpha Phi is in the right place, they aren't with the top 6, and not distinctly ahead of the ones with it, and aren't very strong in the South. Tri Delt and XO are big in the South, but nationally too. Gamma Phi isn't very present in the South at all (less so than Alpha Phi) and I definitely wouldn't put either above Tri Delt or XO.

A Phi and G Phi are huge nationally. A lot of houses that are big in the south aren't even known in other places...or aren't "top tier". If you go to the west coast Zeta and XO are not big at all, and tridelt is different. It's Kappa, DG, Pi Phi, G phi, Theta, A Phi

DZ should probably switch with KD and AOPi should probably be in middle. And DG and Zeta should switch. It seems like that list almost has some kind of Midwest bias.

There are not real tiers. There are some strong sororities nationally, but every area of the country has its own. This is not an inclusive list, I'm from the South so I'll just list the strong sororities down here in absolutely no order.

ADpi, DG, DZ, Theta, Gphi, Phi Mu, Chi O, AGD, Kappa, AOpi, Zeta, Pi Phi, KD, AXO, A phi, Sigma kap.

Not really the South, but it is the SEC -- GPhiB is a top house at Mizzou.

Alpha Phi at Bama isn't top, but they have some drop-dead-gorgeous girls and are very strong to have just come back to campus four years ago. APhi is also top of the middle tier at Mizzou.

Sigma Kappa is solid upper-middle at UGA and solid middle at Auburn. At NCSU they're definitely top and could go against most of the top houses in the SEC.

These rankings are fairly misleading. Most southern fraternities have a different culture and attitude than the national version of the fraternity. For instance, if you took an SAE chapter at UGA or Bama and compared them to SAE chapters in the north or west, they would seem like two completely different fraternities.

In the south gamma phi beta and sigma kappa, have strong houses at uga (my school). Sigma kappa is known for having great girls and gamma phi is rising fast. Alphi phi has some hot girls at bama that i know. I mean, sorority life is strong in the south and all sororities have fantastic girls down here

By: South
by: UGA

is pretty much the only school in the South where GPB and SK are really strong, so that doesn't classify them as regionally strong in the south at all. I'd say the only sororities with true strength in the south are ADPi, DDD, DG, Kappa, Theta, Phi Mu, KD, XO, Zeta, and Pi Phi.

I'd also argue that AOPi, AGD and AXO are fairly strong in the South overall.

I go to UGA and GPhiB and SK are lower middle AT BEST!
DDD, XO, KKG, DG, Theta I know for a fact are great nationally, as has been said.
At UGA on the other hand, the ones to be in are Theta, KKG, XO, Phi Mu, ADPi.
DG is bottom here and DDD is upper mid at very very best.
Also, no one in the south cares about AlphaPhi and ADPI, PhiMu and KD are all only good in the south.

DKE is considered the hellion rebel of national frats. Always challenging college's PC rules and unabashedly ligitating against university proposals to require fraternities to be co-ed, for example, and standing with their chapters against school charges of hazing.
