recommendations

by: PNM

I'm going to be rushing in the fall and I'm currently trying to gather people to write me recommendations. For some sororities I know more alumni than others and I was wondering if I should e-mail all the alumni I know (roughly like 3 or 4) and ask them all to write me a rec for that sorority or if I should just stick with one. I kinda of what to e-mail all of them because I don't know if the alum I ask to write me a rec will do so on time or such, but I wanted to know if it is taboo to have more than one rec for one chapter.

2 recs isn't a problem, but more than that will start to seem desperate. Most sororities don't actually put much weight on recs, they just have to have one in order to offer someone a bid. You can certainly contact 2 alumni so that you'll have a backup in case one forgets or something, but I wouldn't contact all 3-4.

I know people that pledged without recs... I dont think you HAVE to get recs, its just encouraged. I dont believe sororities are only allowed to bid to people who gathered recs

If girls are not already known to a house and it comes down to an equal choice between a girl who has a rec and a girl who doesn't, then the PNM who already has the rec can have the edge. Why would anyone not do all she could to give herself the best chance? 2 recs but no more.
