connections?

by: Pnm

Lately I've seen a couple posts on here about the importance of being from a wealthy family and having connections to Greek life at UGA if someone wants to end up in a top tier house. Is that really how it is here? I just moved to Georgia a year ago, I know 3 girls in sororities at UGA because I went to a really small high school this year but none of them are in top tier houses. Also I'll be the first person in my immediate family to go to college. Are all the top tier houses going to automatically cut me because of all that without really considering my personality, looks, and gpa? I know I'll be able to afford the dues anywhere except for possibly AGD since I heard their dues are the highest? (Correct me if I'm wrong), but I'm not from a super wealthy, educated, affluent family. Is there anything I can do to get the sororities to look past that or will I automatically end up in a bottom tier hour or not get a bid at all?

Pretty much everyone on here will tell you the same thing, you don't have to be in a top tier house to be happy. Connections are definitely an important part of ending up in top tier. Really though connections help for EVERY house. If you can reach out to those girls that you know at uga and let them know you're thinking about rushing and maybe just ask them for tips, that might be the best thing. Then you'll be on their sororities radar and stand out more.

Yeah sorry I came across that way - I definitely want to keep an open mind during recruitment. I'm more concerned about not getting a fair chance at half the sororities here because of my lack of connections and because I didn't grow up around the Greek life type of people. I've already been talking to my friend who goes here, and I'll definitely reach out to the other 2 girls I know here as well. I just feel like I shouldn't ask them about other houses because I don't want them to think I'm not interested in their sororities. But at the same time, I want a realistic view of where I stand going into recruitment.

Honestly there's a good chance you'll get cut from many of the top houses early on unless you make a fantastic first impression. Even then, it will come down to numbers. If you present yourself well, you should have a fair chance at any of the mid and bottomtier houses and maybe some of the upper mid ones. And there's still a chance you'll end up in a top tier house, it's just reallyyyy hard to get invited back to old row houses without connections.

I heard they're around 2500 the first semester and 2000 every semester after that because they're still paying for their house renovations a while back or something
