DO NOT JOIN A SORRORITY AT UOFT

by:

I must say there is a big big big MISCONCEPTION about sororities!!! They are a huge huge time commitment it is a lot more work than people imagine. It is also a lot more serious than it seems most girls in it are extremely stressed out because of it many people do not pay their dues because of how expensive it is. When you go through the rounds they will tell you the price but this is not the truth. They are much more expensive than they say in their presentations you get charged if you miss events or if you are late on dues. THESE CULTS can get u into deep debt. The reality is these girls don't care about friendship they care about recruiting more people to pay of their debts. When one girl dropped out a higher-up girl said oh there goes our funds. It's a very shallow organization these girls are mean they will steal your boyfriends and are proud that they help cheat with people's mans. There is a lot of drama most people don't get along and there are smaller groups within. It's not a place to join if you care about friendship or making a difference you may find temporary friends but no true friends. Don't join unless you want to find yourself in serious debt!!!! Not a way to find a bf go to the library!!! It's a distraction from your studies there are other ways to meet ppl at Uoft and to gain what you think you want from a sorority.

I think there are misconceptions about sororities, but not the way they’re explained here. Yes people underestimate the commitment, but outside of big events (recruitment, philanthropy, initiation), the weekly commitment is relatively low if you are not in leadership. Yes it is expensive, but the cost presented during recruitment is accurate unless you are late paying, which incurs fees on the billing system NOT with the chapter. Some chapters charge fees for late things or do not have all-inclusive dues, but you can ask about that during recruitment. Most chapters vote on their own budgets. If you are a potential new member and a chapter is out of your budget, do not feel pressured to join! You can exit recruitment at any time and no one will judge you for it, sometimes sororities are overpriced and sometimes they just aren’t for everyone. Once you have joined, almost every chapter has options for your membership if you cannot commit to the time or finances. Losing a member does not always mean that dues go up, and having more members does not always mean dues go down. Lots of things are estimates and prices in Toronto are always crazy anyway. Yes, people are shallow, and yes, there is drama, but it is unfair to say that it what all chapters are like. People steal boyfriends and cheat whether they’re in greek life or not let’s be so fr. It is possible to meet friends or make a difference, if you prioritize meeting the right people and prioritize your time in the chapter. I have met people, inside my chapter and out, who I know will be in my life forever. I have also met people I wont see ever again after graduation. In a chapter full of 30-50 people, you wont like everyone and you wont be friends with everyone. At the end of the day, a sorority is not a club so you have to put in some extra time/money to be able to have the benefits. Just focus on what you want to get out of your time and do what is right for you

I 100% agree. There are so many better and more productive ways to make friends on campus. Weather is be through joining various student unions / clubs or getting involved with any of the on campus sports. I promise you there are better ways to make friends than paying to get hazed, drink your brains out and take part in pointless drama.
