This entire post is so stupid. Every sorority who has been seen with adphi has been getting slandered. The pears post was bad, yes, but if we called every sorority “bottom tier” or “has no class” for associating with frats that have f-ed up, then every sorority would be bottom tier. Aopi was not “perpetuating misogyny” by letting adphis play dodgeball, they were having an open philanthropy. Kappa is not “bottom tier” for attending a charity event with a local preschool, they’re just helping out their community and honoring tradition, which can literally be seen on the adphi insta from previous years. Plus i see you all talk to the adphis when they pull up to the Maddy and elsewhere so you’re all complicit in this behaviour. Maybe instead of finding a reason to pit girls against each other for simply doing philanthropy you should all study for your finals.

The Adphis and Aopi planned the event together despite what they may have told the public. Also "honouring tradition" is what the Adphis do when they sing misogynistic songs about women that have been passed down from generations. They also have hazing practices that "honour tradition" The point I am trying to make is that sometimes "tradition" should be developed and altered as the times progress. Adphi should take accountability for what they have done and take action to stop singing those songs and alter their hazing practices. Until then girls who spend time with them are dismissing and ignoring or simply don't care what is sung about them in not so closed doors anymore.

In response to “hi”, you make a very valid point. But a lot of this post also sounds like making up women’s minds for them. Those songs, to some, can seem extremely bad and offensive. However, to others, especially those in greeklife who know that every frat and every sorority have weird ritual songs, it’s not that bad. Also, the hazing allegations are disgusting, but hasn’t there also been proof brought to light about how some of these were simply fabrications by a dropped pledge and his girlfriend who decided to have a malicious streak? All of greeklife has “tradition” that the general public would be a bit weirded out by. That’s why they started off as secret weird little societies. If you don’t agree with it, get off this website and disassociate from greeklife, I promise you might be a lot happier. Of course there is progress to be made and adphi should definitely no longer sing those songs and shouldnt haze in general because both of those things are just so stupid. But then again, every sorority associates with frats who have messed up. Whether its SA allegations, spiking allegations, abusing their dog allegations (this one fr crazy). Imma stop yapping, but have a bit of a broader perspective, and realize that sometimes girls hanging out with some guys is just all that it is, and not some intentional plot to undermine the workings of feminism as a whole.

“In response to “Yapper”,” as a woman who has a hard time in life specifically because of white men, I find you saying they’re “making up the minds for women” a needless comment. As an establishment of upwards of 30 men, mostly white I believe, (idk their numbers) they should be responsible for what they make their pledges sing, and coming from one of the pledges who pledged this semester, he didn’t agree with the songs but sung them to fit in with the brothers who seemed be enjoying it. And I can also say that my sorority does NOT have songs remotely similar to those, nor does one other frat who generously let me read their song and ritual books (thanks HL <3).
Also from the pledge, the hazing is mostly true, like 95%. The P pledge existed and is true, and the other parts were slightly exaggerated but still true nonetheless. SHAME on their pres. Don’t speak on topics you have no connections in, maybe you should come off this website instead of yapping and wasting your time defending a misogynistic institution, you’re a keyboard warrior.

^”hi”
It’s really obvious that all these negative posts are written by one person hating on aopi and kkg. You just seem to be using the adphi situation to bash other strats that have done nothing wrong. Both held philanthropies that adphi attended and kkg helped out at an event for literal children. Don’t you have better things to do?

Adphi ran their annual Christmas philanthropy event for toddlers, where they hosted families and gave children presents. Focus on real problems, rather than get upset at multiple sororities who came to help out at a philanthropy for children. Grow up.

don’t speak if you don’t know all of the info! i got insight from one of my kkg friends that kkg uninvited all of the adphis from their semi bc of the pears post and the allegations and their girls did a vote on it bc they wanted to make sure everyone felt safe and they did the vote for every frat which is def something my sorority has never done considering that we literally invited ppls exes to our semi and my chapter doesn’t do a vote on the guestlist…it seems that this post is very uninformed

In response to Yapper-

I understand that some Greek life traditions such as philanthropies and parties are normalized within the community it is crucial to understand that those song lyrics sung by the Adphis are is not something that is normalized within greek life, especially in this generation. I am in a sorority and have friends in different sororities and we do not have songs that demean and objectify women or men in any way.

People not affiliated with greek life have every right to be involved with it as it affects people who go to The Unviersity of Toronto and especially women who party at fraternity houses and attend classes with these men and women. Just because someone is not in a frat or sorority it doesn't mean they should be excluded from the conversation. You don't need to be in Greek life to have an opinon. Most people I have talked to in Greek life have also agreed that the songs are awful and have no place in Greek life.

We should question whether certain practices align with broader ethical and moral standards.

The hazing practices that occur are true, I have heard it from my friends and others as well. There is no reason for anyone to make any of this up. Especially with the proof of the song lyrics. Without those pictures everyone would say that the song lyrics were made up too.

Just because something has a historical precedent doesn't necessarily make it morally justified or immune to scrutiny. Societal values evolve, and traditions that were once deemed acceptable may now be seen as outdated or harmful.

We should hold frats and sororities accountable for actions that are not ethical and respectful.
