money is tight is my sorority still worth it?
by: xyzzzzi joined a sorority and it’s pretty up there in terms of popularity and cost. i’m a poor student and paying for everything by myself and with osap. a big sum of the fees are due next month and idk how i’m gonna come up with the money, but there’s a possibility that i can. i rly like the sorority but is it worth it?

this is honestly one of the least talked about sides of greek life, at least in my experience. money is a taboo topic so i get it, but not talking about it adds so much shame. i have had several members of my chapter leave due to finances, and friends from other schools too. if you really want to make it work (not saying you have to) it might be worthwhile to talk to your finance exec. maybe there are payment plans or scholarships. if you are an initiated member, it might be worth asking if there are financial leaves that would allow you to take time off and then come back. some chapters might have different membership statuses to allow you to have different payment options. if you aren't sure you want to make it work, talk to someone you trust to be honest with you and talk it through with them. best of luck, life is expensive out here xx

Depending on which one you joined, some organizations have scholarships. If it’s a big deal to you, I would check their organization page for scholarships and see if you are eligible. That being said, lots of students pay their own tuition too, so maybe ask around ur chapter and see what kind of jobs the girls have and if they can hook u up. From my experience, bartending/serving can easily make you dues fees in a few weekends. But yeah, financially (for sorority’s at least) we pay for lots of “free” stuff. Asking for the budget breakdown might make you not want to join tbh.
