consequences of underground fraternity
by: ReallySo I don’t get it , like if I wanted to join dke what would the actual consequences be. It seems like kicking a fraternity off campus doesn’t actually do anything. Is there something I’m missing? Can you actually get in trouble ?

I'm not entirely sure either, but from what I have heard from other people, dke is essentially a gang right now. The liability that they take on for every party is 100% on them and not tied in with the school. If someone were to pass out at a dke party, there would be no organizational amnesty and they would be charged just the same as normal citizens would. You can still join but just understand that all of the benefits of being in a greek organization go out the door since it is not considered a fraternity at Wake Forest anymore. Besides parties and a group of friends to hang out with there is nothing more to joining dke from 2018-2222

The legal aspect of joining an underground fraternity is more risky. I think that’s obvious. No national backing or backing from the school. Both could try to pursue legal action if an underground group continues to operate after losing permission to do so. That said there is a solid amount of uncertainty that no one can predict. Kappa Sig and Sigma Nu both we’re underground for a few years (not sure how long), but they both had to try to merge because of legal issues I think. I can’t tell you the exact legal problems you could face, but I can say that the uncertainty of the whole situation is risky. It would be naive to think otherwise.

Normally yes liability and networking are the only different things. However DKE is not a usual situation right now. They have full alumni support, a house, and potential national recognition(very uncommon). This is because many people disagree with the schools controversial decision. That means they can still operate as a fraternity with no liability issues. You would still have networking abilities since DKE probably had the best network of all Greek life at WFU. DKE has many underground brothers already and is not an issue.

I think the biggest issue they face is that because they aren't recognized by the school, the school will go out of the way to get rid of them. They don't want an unrecognized fraternity operating and will put a lot of pressure on DKE if they get caught operating which will inevitably happen

Sort of right. They would have networking opportunities and do have alumni and national support. Very much unlike kappa sig or sig nu who were both never even close to DKE status
