They are good to have because they allow a chapter to know more about you. However, they don't guarantee you will or will not be cut from a house. SLU is not like bigger state school where you need a rec to get anywhere in recruitment, but honestly, if you do not have them, you will be totally fine. Rating and voting is based on a lot of factors, and SLU has a very inclusive and open Greek community. Most people who go through recruitment end up getting a bid. Just keep your options open, and do not place one house ahead of others solely because it is a "top house." Try to find girls you feel a connection with.
