sorority expansion

Why in the world are we getting another sorority when ADPi and gamma phi have been "steadily improving" for years.

Why? So more women can experience wonderful sorority life.
It's tricky though... How long will this growth trend continue? The new chapter will take a big risk building a brand new house for millions of $ unless frat sells.

Errr, that's got to be the worse reason to invite a new sorority on campus. It's not like PNMs are getting turned away at rush because there aren't enough spaces (in fact, considering that sororities still have to COB right after rush, there's probably still too many "spaces"). If a girl wanted to experience sorority life, she's go through rush and if she made it to pref and maximized then she's guaranteed a home. I don't know what Panhellenic is thinking when not all 12 are even close to being at total.

Don't know why you are getting downvotes when you are speaking the truth about quota.

For those who are confused, the way that quota works is that it is the total number of girls who reached pref and maximized their options (meaning no suicide bids) divided by number of houses (in this case 12). So it is impossible for girls to not have a spot if they have done all of that. And it is in a very rare case that a girl doesn't make it pref unless she has a terrible reputation. It's not like every house has to have 90 new members every year. It changes each year depending on the number of PNMs. Keeping 12 houses is not locking anyone out of experiencing sorority life!

Just my thought... When gamma phi starting reaching total a couple yrs ago, I guess Panhellenic decided they were no longer considered "new chapter status". So now it's time for the next new one to join.

TCU keeps adding chapters. Tech added. Although the UT does not.

I'm not sure it's a good idea for Aggie sororities right now. 12 seems about right. As girls pledge and then drop.

The cost for s new sorority to start at UT and succeed is huge. TCU does not have housing and Tech has lodges, not same financial investment. A&M does not need another group.

TCU does have housing for their sororities, they're dorm-like buildings owned by the university

UT has a campus culture issue. They have an extremely unkind panhellenic system and most nationals wouldn't want to touch them with a ten foot pole because the environment is so hostile.

A&M does NOT need another sorority. We need to move sorority row to West Campus and build bigger houses.

To be honest, TAMU Panhellenic does not have the backbone nor the support from the university to grow and have a sorority system like other SEC schools. Instead of coming up with something innovative to enhance the sorority experience, they just plaster on a band-aid and decide to invite another sorority to colonize, struggle through formal recruitment, get made fun of, become stable through COB, then repeat with another sorority.

As the only SEC school in Texas, A&M could have been a huge draw for girls who would have rather attended Alabama/Ole Miss, or TCU/SMU. It would have been the perfect mix of size (larger and less exclusive old-girl's club like UT/SMU/TCU) but still classier than Tech/OU.

The university administration should notice that Greeks donate considerably more to the university than non-Greeks, and if they were like other SEC schools, would support us. But they don't. And Panhellenic could be making a 5 year plan or 10 year plan to revamp sorority row (don't have to move to West Campus - current location is fine) but they're too happy with the status quo or too lazy to do anything about it.

What are some suggestions to revamp sorority row? (Re: 5 yr, 10 yr. plan)

Remodeled housing, improved parking, bigger space for chapter meetings, things like that. A lot of these houses were built in the 70s and things kind of look like they're falling apart, or they're really cramped because they kept on tacking things onto existing walls and spaces. The newer houses like KD, DG, and Zeta look good, but good housing definitely attracts PNMs. The houses should be a place for people to hang out with each other, eat a meal with each other, study together, etc, but as they are now, it's too cramped for girls to hang out together.
