Just going by the number of nearby alumna and general strenght, I would think the likely candidates will be Sigma Kappa, Alpha Phi, Alpha Xi Delta, AOPi and Phi Mu.

Sigma Kappa, Alpha Xi Delta, and AOPi??? Do they even have strong chapters anywhere near Texas? If anything, it's going to be Alpha Phi or Phi Mu, maybe even AGD... that's if a colonization is actually going to happen...

Also meant to add that if you'd seen SK's presentation at UH where they were selected to colonize you would have a better idea of how strong and committed their area alumnae base is and how good their expansion team and presentation are.

We have an SK alumna trolling the boards. Seriously, wouldn't your sorority be embarrassed? Of course no one at A&M would have watched the UH presentation, what a stupid thing to say...

Not a Sigma Kappa, alumna or otherwise. My sorority is already at A&M thankyouverymuch. I'm extremely active in Houston area Panhellenic affairs so I am aware of the activity level and strength of the sorority alumnae organizations. You'd be surprised how large/active some groups are in comparison to others. It often does not correlate with national size, local alumnae numbers, or number of or perceived status of nearby collegiate chapters. MANY sorority alumnae attended the UofH extension presentations even though their groups were not presenting or were already there. This was because extension simply doesn't happen that frequently in these parts and we were interested in the process. It was also because some sororities are in hyper expansion mode right now and it's helpful to see what the "competition" is doing in case your group comes up against that group in future expansions.

I have no inside track on the decisions currently being made at A&M. I'm simply letting people know the kinds of factors that have affected expansion decisions at other schools I'm familiar with. One of the other big factors is financial strength since a new sorority at A&M is going to have to have a competitive house if it has any chance of survival.

If I had to guess who else sent in an interest packet in addition to the groups mentioned above, I think AGD, Tri Sigma and Delta Phi Epsilon are likely. If I were a betting person, my money would be on Alpha Phi to get this one.

It's not a matter of having "strong" chapters in Texas, it's a matter of the number of alumnae and support. While those groups don't have "top tier" chapters in Texas, they do have a strong alumnae base due to the age of the chapters here as well as many transplants from other areas who live in the Houston area. You just need to look at their alumnae groups there to see who actually has enough involved alumnae to support a new chapter. AGD is basically not existent in Texas both from a collegiate and alumnae perspective. SK, AOPi, PM and APhi are all in major expansion mode too. I agree that the four groups above are the most likely to be selected to present. We pretty much already have all the "Texas strong" groups here already.

Phi mu's at Other sec schools are some of the sweetest girls. Plus phi mu should expand to Texas. Tech and TCU are getting phi mu, why not a&m.

Because it's expensive to start a colony at TCU AND Tech and A&M. Even though they are strong in the South, the money may not be there and the alumnae involvement may not be strong enough to set up three colonies in the same state.

If I had a choice, Phi Mu would be my choice too, but logistically it doesn't seem like it'll happen.

Phi mu is working on major expansion and it would seem logical to expand to a&m where they can get a good thing going. There is no way phi mu would ever expand to UT, but a&m would be a smart choice bc a&m is really picking up Greek wise, and phi mu is a strong sorority in the south with heavy alumni involvement.

It's not anywhere near as expensive to expand at Tech and TCU. No houses at all at TCU and small lodge buildings at Tech. Any sorority would have to have a big house at A&M so a big financial investment would be needed, but TCU and Tech expenses wouldn't be the reason for not being able to afford to come to A&M. Whether they could afford to otherwise would only be something they could know, but it sure wouldn't have to do with those other colonies.
