rush 2015
by: wanting to learnFor all the girls who went through rush, whether you accepted a bid or not, what were your thoughts on the rush experience, which houses made you feel comfortable and why? I want to learn how I can help my chapter have a great recruitment, where we did well and where we can improve. Which chapters where desired for the way they made you feel during rush, not for the "name" they might have? Also, how did what you pref'd differ or stay the same from what you thought before you went through rush?

Please don't have convocation right before first rounds! I think convocation should be a time to relax and settle nerves a bit, but jumping right into the first round felt kind of rushed and I was still really nervous.
As for the houses themselves, some of the "party" houses had some of the nicest girls and best conversations, some of the "hot" houses scared me with how pageant-girl they looked, and some of the "sweet, nice" girls scared me with so much Jesus talk and judgemental talk. "Lower-tier" (I hate that term, but don't know how else to put it) girls look just as hot/pretty as the rest of them, but I'd say the big difference is in conversation. It could be kind of hit or miss. Outfits looked fine, but there were some pauses, fake laughs, and too much complaining (I think it's meant to make us feel more comfortable, but it was too much). Great recruitment overall though.

i was in it for genuine sisterhood, so houses that had super scripted speeches (particularly on philanthropy) sometimes felt awkward or forced. same with conversations; i felt like some were trying to sell me their sorority rather than get to know me or let me get to know them.

I will admit that Rush was harder in some ways and easier than others. I was a legacy to a "top house" and I had friends from HS school who had gone into a couple others. So all in all I came into the experience knowing about 4 houses. I ended up cutting my legacy on day 3 because the convo didn't feel natural and I felt the house was superficial and I didn't think I would ever feel myself there. I ended up really loving AXO and Pi Phi, which I didn't know much about before Rush, so I was surprised I felt so at home there. I think what felt so good there was the conversations were easy, we laughed a lot and they looked like they really enjoy each other. I am excited to say I got my top choice out of those 2 and am looking forward to my next 4 years in my house!
