sorority descriptions

by:

Alpha Chi Omega: These are the pretty, friendly, "girl-next-door" type who are usually from the suburbs and small towns who love to be social. Known to be social butterflies, they're pretty and kind of chill and laid back, but like to party. From what I can see, they have a surprisingly tight knit sisterhood too. They're kind of the more country version of DG.

Alpha Delta Pi: These girls have tons of spirit and their members and exec are working really hard to improve. I'm not just saying this to be nice, but I've noticed that on social media competitions they do fairly well, and they went pretty far in SAE's Paddy Murphy competition. These girls certainly don't lack in any enthusiasm, and as long as they continue to improve they will do well. The girls themselves may be a little shy or awkward during recruitment which is something they could work on, but on the whole, they're great girls!

Chi Omega: As much as people moan on this site about XO cutting legacies before pref, this sorority does have a lot of legacies. They're the more conservative (and Christian) girls from big cities. Usually they're the backup option for a lot of the girls who wanted to go Tri Delt as they're quite similar except XO lacks a bit in social life and overall appearance. I get the feeling that they kind of live in their little bubble and can be snobbish.

Delta Delta Delta: Pretty much the universally agreed upon top house. They're from mostly the wealthy suburbs like Coppell and The Woodlands (and some not-as wealthy suburbs as well). Of all the "top" houses, these girls have a balance of looks, grades, social life, and wealth. Individually, you might find a girl who isn't wealthy or who isn't a great looker, but the house on the whole is one of the tops in all of those categories I mentioned. Imagine the perfect Southern belle, and it's pretty close to Tri Delt. They're pretty conservative and Christian as well, but they have a great social calendar and other sororities like them as well.

Delta Gamma: One of the newer sororities on campus so they might get a lot of hate for what some old-timers see as being "upstarts." They also have a girl-next-door image, but it's more of the hot, blonde, SoCal girl next door, not country girl next door like AXO. Pretty, fun, and chill around the guys, their social calendar is usually pretty full. They take girls who are the "best of the rest" from small towns and suburbs like Georgetown/Leander or Katy who are usually first generation Greeks. Their grades can be a little iffy - I know a DG with a 4.0 in accounting and their grades used to be better but now they're kind of middle of the pack. I get a similar vibe between XO and DG in that they're both very competitive (DG does well in dance competitions) and both are knocking on the door of top tier and have something to prove.

Kappa Kappa Gamma: You either love them or hate them. Yes, their reputation as wealthy party girls from the most exclusive schools and neighborhoods is pretty well-deserved. Some will say they're rude and snobby, but personally I've never met a Kappa I didn't like. The girls usually tend to have very strong personalities and some can be pretty sarcastic which comes off as rude to someone who is particularly sensitive. The personality of this house is definitely not for everyone, but if you're comfortable with it, then you'll have a total blast. They're pretty involved in their philanthropy as well, and have a great social calendar with exclusive "top tier" fraternities.

Pi Beta Phi: Pretty overlooked on the whole in my opinion. No one really has anything bad to say about Pi Phi, and the girls are goofy, nice girls. They're not necessarily "the best" in any one category, but they rank highly in pretty much all of the categories. The girls come from a mix of exclusive big city schools like Memorial and HP and the wealth girls from small towns like Beaumont, but instead of being the popular girl from those schools, these girls are the athletes and nice girls. They're the "good girls" who are cute and social but don't go crazy off the walls.

Zeta Tau Alpha: Aggie Barbies pretty much sums up a lot about them. Pageant girls, cheerleaders, dancers, pretty girls, and hot girls. That's not necessarily a bad thing either. They're pretty nice, but kind of cold, like a bubble.

DG is not a new "upstart". We've been on campus for coming up on 20 years....longer than any freshman or sophomore going through Rush has been alive!

DG, this is why you get so much hate on this site. It's annoying and nobody respects a sorority that has to defend themselves on Greek Rank all the time.

Just get over yourself!! Omg I think it is the same people always trying to make others look bad. Your the annoying one, why not add your name, oh that's right you don't want people to see how you hide behind a key board. Sorry DG, I am just sick of people who feel they have a right to be nasty to XO,ZETA,AXO, and the list goes on! Here is an idea try to say something nice about each group, and maybe you will feel better about yourself and stop being petty, that is to all the nasty commenter on GR

I'm kind of unsure who "Can you" is referring to, but I don't think the OP is a DG. She says a lot of positive and true things about other sororities too. I think the OP is right, we have a dedicated DG basher trolling the discussion board trying to give them hate when I don't think that they deserve it. I've noticed a lot of DG hate these few days and I wish it would stop. I'm actually a Gamma Phi but I don't think they deserve all this hate that they're getting from this site.

DG lives on GR, stop talking about other sororities

I don't think a DG would want to be known as" the best of the rest", so the assumption a DG wrote this might be very miss leading. Plus people act like these stereotypes have not been posted before.

Yeah, no, I'm the OP. And what I meant by best of the rest is most of the other sororities in the top 6 try to recruit girls from wealthy private schools and exclusive neighborhoods like HP/Memorial/Southlake/Westlake etc. who have been prepped for birth for recruitment. They're oftentimes legacies too whereas DG on the other hand takes girls from "normal" suburbs like Georgetown, Sugarland, and some smaller towns. And of the less-wealthy less super-prepped girls, they get the attractive ones and the ones with good grades.

Also, 20 years old is still pretty young considering how far they've gone. Just take a look at some of the responses to this post alone and don't tell me that they've attractived some haters. Some people (or just one person spamming) is still living in the past. Notice how I didn't rank the houses except for Tri Delt. That's because I think they're all good houses to join and where you end up just depends on your personality, not "tiers."

Also I'll just say this once - I am not a DG (is this supposed to be an insult or something?) there are other houses that I thought I was far more laudatory towards, but some poor soul on this site seems to be obsessed.

Great post. The only thing I would say is that ALL of the soririties at A&M are new. The first ones were founded in 1975 and continued through the mid-1980's when Pi Phi colonized.

Compared to other Texas schools where sororities have been around for 100 years (SMU) or 110 years (UT), it just seems silly to call the 20 year old chapters "new" when the others are only 30-40 years old. It's not like we're Ole Miss where Greek Life is 150 years old!

Also meant to say I find it interesting that anyone who says something positive about DG just has to point out their "newness", but anyone who comments about KD never mentions they are newer, too. KD came a few years after DG.

Obvi it's because chapters (or alumnae) are jealous DG is doing well and need to find a reason to cut them down / keep them in their place. KD's newness is a non-factor because they aren't competition for the old guard.

DG makes the comments that they are new and complain about the Old Guard. What is the Old Guard? The only new sorority is Gamma Phi Beta.

"Best women A&M has to offer" please. You're not the only group with girls in leadership positions grow up

Don't think a Theta would describe themselves as "nerdy mean girls" or "redass boot chasers" though...

And yes, I believe it's accurate to say that DZ is just the flavor of late for hate over some stupid stuff.
