judgement or nah

by:

So I'm coming to A&M next year from a medium sized university in the east coast. I rushed this past year and ended up in the hands down best sorority at my current school. Anyway I ended up hating the school and am now coming back to Texas.

I'm definitely going to affiliate with my sorority at A&M, but just wondering what to expect; As in, will I be looked down on as a transfer, especially since I didn't come from a southern state school. Not that it really matters, I'm confident I can hold my own, but still, I'm curious

I'm going into my senior year and we've had four transfers into our sorority. Only one of them worked out and here's why. It really all depends on your fit into the chapter. No, we never looked down on any girls for being transfers and we definitely welcome them with open arms. That being said, sometimes girls just did not fit in and ultimately decided to leave the chapter. My advice to you is to affiliate, get involved, be nice to girls, and look forward to meeting your new house. You will get lots of attention as the new girl, but it will all be positive as people will be excited about getting to know you and hearing what their sorority is like in other states.

1. Check with your sorority to understand the affiliation process. In some houses, it's not a "definitely". There is a getting to know each other process and then the chapter women vote on whether the transfer can affiliate. My guess is that most transfers are voted in, but it may not be a given so don't be so sure until you know how your sorority handles transfers.

2. My chapter has had one transfer since I've been here. She came from another Texas school where our chapter is in the same "tier" as here. She hasn't gotten very involved with our chapter even though we did vote to affiliate her after meeting her.

Forgot to mention that even if you don't affiliate, you're still a member of your sorority for life, with full membership privileges as an alumna post-graduation.

If you do affiliate and it doesn't work out and you want to quit, you will permanently sever your ties with your sorority. I think there are a few sororities who let women go "early alumna" but most make you turn in your pin and quit altogether.

Really do hope everything works out for you as we have awesome Panhellenic community here, but just know all of your options & scenarios before agreeing to affiliate.
