1. Being out of state doesn't matter. Your recs don't need to be written by TAMU alumnae.

2. You DO know Greek women, you just haven't discovered who they are yet. Have you asked your mom's friends? Your friends' moms? All of your female teachers/ coaches/ counseors? Women from church? Your neighbors? Your whole extended family? I highly doubt you don't know any sorority women. Start hunting them down because your late. Sororities wanted your recs & photos before they left for the summer.

If you really can't find anyone or are struggling to find the last few, try posting on Facebook to see if any of your friends can connect you to someone.

Have your mom post on Facebook too. Also you likely can find a local Panhellenic group that can help you find local members and also you can go to each sororities national web sites and find help. Don't wait, it's hard at the last minute!

You need 1 per house. Each sorority's alumnae write to their own TAMU chapter. A Kappa alumna can't send a rec to DG or vice versa.

I still don't believe that you've never met ONE Greek woman. What actions have you taken to try to line up recs?

I literally did not know anyone either. My parents are immigrants (and hang out with other immigrants) so I didn't have any family friends who were in sororities, and I went to a high school where not a single one of my friends' parents were involved in Greek life. I contacted my city's Panhellenic organization and they helped set me up with rec writers.

A word of advice, do not assume that the ladies Panhellenic gets you in contact with HAVE to write you a rec. Do not treat them as if it is their job to write one for you. Politely ask to meet them for coffee or if they are volunteering somewhere if you could come along. Ask a lot of questions about the recruitment process, talk to them about their experience. Listen carefully to how they describe their own sorority's values and try to mold your own experiences to match up with those during recruitment conversations. I talked to 20 women I had never met before the summer before my recruitment, and that was a wonderful way for me to build up conversation skills. Also, be sure to thank your writers profusely. Be aware that many are doing you a favor. Don't drop off the face of the planet after they've sent in their rec forms.

This is a recruitment guide my local Panhellenic wrote up. It's pretty useful. www.austinpanhellenic.org/guide1.html

1. Google <your hometown> Panhellenic
2. If you're from a small town, it may be harder to find an area Panhellenic. In that case, find the largest university in your area, go to that university's Panhellenic website, email the university, ask them if they know what "area" you live in and if they have someone you can get in contact with.
3. Do everything I said above. Explain your situation politely and concisely. Explain that you have very little exposure to Greek life so you're very sorry that you're contacting them so late (you're not really late but some girls get their stuff in all the way in March), but you really want to be in a sorority for <your reason here>. You're very unfamiliar with the process so that's why you're contacting the Panhellenic to see if they have any advice for you. Admit that your university's recruitment is competitive so recs are needed but you don't know anyone. Ask if there are any alumnae in the area who have been known to help PNMs in the past.
4. Email alumnae. Explain you got their contact info from your area Panhellenic. Ask if you can set up a meeting whenever SHE is available.
5. Prepare your recruitment packet (see recruitment guide that I linked to above)
6. A day before, send a text saying you're so excited to meet her.
7. Day of, dress cutely, do your hair, light makeup, nice shorts and sandals.

7. Meeting your rec writer is pretty much a trial run of the first day of recruitment. Practice active listening, body posture, smiling, sucking up, etc. Say you're so nervous and excited. Ask if it's okay if you can text her throughout the summer with questions you may have.
8. Throughout the Summer, make up a question about rush (even if you know the answer) and ask your writers. Yes, all of them. It'll make them feel important and keep you in their mind. Some alumnae might be very influential in the A&M chapters.
9. Some will want a live play-by-play during recruitment. Indulge them.
10. After bid day, make sure to thank them all.
