colonizarion

Is a&m getting any new sororities anytime soon? For example Tech is getting an AXD and later a Phi Mu.. Does a&m have room for more sororities?

I don't think NPC is going to let any more sororities colonize at A&M until ADPi can have a fall rush where they make quota and stay full without anyone dropping. A new sorority would probably piss off PNMs too because then quota will be smaller and the "top" sororities would have to be more selective. You'd probably see the new sorority getting all the Blinn Team girls and I know a LOT of full A&M girls would not be pleased and end up dropping.

If A&M is following the model of other SEC schools like Alabama, Arkansas, and Ole Miss, we'll probably keep the number of chapters low but have huge pledge classes of around 150 girls. Which begs the question of where will those houses hold chapter meetings with 600 girls?

No respectable national sorority is going to colonize here unless they can build a house and there's no more adjacent property for a decent house to be built. The neighborhoods around sorority row all threw a major temper tantrum when GPB tried to build new and they were lucky to get the dreg of sorority row. I guess when GPB closes. someone else can take that spot.

This is hilarious - they are a great group of girls who work very hard. Guess you are jealous of their pretty house. What a way to promote greek life!

"I guess when GPB closes" are you serious? I'm not even a gamma phi and I will admit that they have had a HUGE improvement recently and I would consider them above DZ, KD, and ADPi!

As for the new chapter, I have heard rumors that they will be bringing in a new chapter in a few years. The new chapter is rumored to have a house built where the frat house currently is, so I guess CPC/that chapter would buy the land from the frat.

I will say I hope they wait until ADPi is solidly involved and stable before introducing a new house. Otherwise it'll be like UT where there's a bottom house and a "oh my god is this even a sorority" house. I agree with poster 1, like it or not the new house would just have a ton of Blinn Team and they would never be at total because full time A&M girls would drop or Blinn Team girls would transfer.

Yeah. I was being completely serious. The story of how GPB got their house is entirely factual. The fact that there's no other place for a national sorority to build their house adjacent to sorority row is true. And saying "when GPB closes" has really pushed some buttons. I kind of meant it like "when pigs fly" but if yall sure are defensive about your chapter....

AEPhi just colonized here

I think OP meant an NPC sorority to participate in formal rush. AEPhi is informal rush after recruitment ends.

As of last week, we will be taking applications for a new chapter to charter in the fall. NPC sororities will have the opportunity to send in their application to charter and at the end of the semester Panhellenic will vote on which sorority will get to charter. They will colonize in Spring 2016 and participate in formal recruitment Fall 2016. They will be required to find a lot and build a house within 3 years of colonizing. Also AEPhi is an NPC Sorority, eventually they will participate in formal recruitment but only for the first "open house" round. From what I've heard Alpha Phi or Phi Mu is probably going to be the next chapter colonized here but that will be up to Panhellenic to decide this next semester.

So AEPhi will conduct their recruitment similar to how they do it at UT? If so, I'm sorry to say this but they probably won't make a dent in quota. A lot would rather drop than join them. We even have the same problem with ADPi, they reach quota when bids are made but a lot of girls will drop or not even show up. What will our Panhellenic do to ensure that this does not happen with the new colony? My money's on Alpha Phi. If Phi Mu is colonizing at Tech, they're not going to be able to afford doing it at A&M as well. And there are established chapters of Alpha Phi at UT (and Baylor I think?) Me personally, I don't think inviting a new sorority to colonize will be a good thing.

trying to figure out who the new colony will be if/when A&M opens up for extension. You never know who will submit a packet, and you never know who will be invited to present until it happens. Everyone assumed GPM or SK would be invited to present at Tech b/c of their history. They may or may not have even submitted a packet last fall. Once the invitations to present went out to AXiD, DZ, and PM, it was anyone's game. It doesn't matter who has a history on campus unless it's recent & there's a lingering bad feeling about them. It doesn't matter who is the strongest at UT/Tech/etc. or the conference. What matters is who the women on the selection committee have the most emotional response to during the review process, plain and simple. Anyone invited to present will already have the national resources to make the new colony/chapter successful (they wouldn't dip their toe in if their national HQ hadn't already done the analysis), so the committee will want to know exactly what the plan is, and probably consider the recent track record of new colonies at other schools similar to A&M. Name recognition will matter, but won't be the be-all-end-all (though you'll never see the lesser known NPCs like ASA, AST, Phi Sigma Sigma, Theta Phi Alpha, or the like at A&M, b/c they are virtually unheard of in the state). Anyway, it's all fine and good to speculate, but based on what Tech experienced last fall, there's just no telling who will be picked.
