messed up system
by: don't go greekI have no idea why anyone in their right mind would put themselves through recruitment? It is a messed up system, that makes girls feel awful about themselves. You through a week of waking up at the crack of dawn trying to look like something you are not, making small talk, hoping that these girls will choose you. It's all fake. So many girls get cut after day 3 from their dream house, and it just tares you down. Who thinks it's alright to tell a girl that you are not wanted? No wonder girls have such low self esteem. This why girls starve themselves, and abuse themselves. It is just plain wrong. Being in a sorority is just like being in high school. It's all about who is the better house. None of y'all are better! Y'all are all equal. No one cares if you are prettier, richer, or smarter. Why is being in a "sisterhood" so amazing? It's not! Do you really think you'll have 200 bf's? Umm NO! The greek system in its entirety is stupid. Please if you are reading this at least listen to this: a sorority does not make you any better than anyone else. Okay rant over.

recruitment is pretty shallow. you have just 15-20 minutes talking with an active and its the same questions over and over at each house. because everyone is pretty much qualified, the actives then base their voting on zip codes and how pretty or skinny you are. no chapter is above the others. the rankings on here are based on boy's opinions and self ranking sorority girls. you can't tell me that lining up 200+ girls and then say this house is better than the other because of looks. if the "top tiers" switched girls with "bottom tiers" girls, it would still be the same ranking.

I don't agree with your post, but I understand why you feel the way you do. (and empathize with you) Most of us don't think we're better than anyone else or better than the girls in any other house. This site propels misinformation and innuendoes in order to create interest. In truth, during recruitment, lots of girls in the houses feel awkward making small talk. We also wish there were more time to get to know each pnm before we have to vote them in or cut them. Recruitment is a subjective system; therefore it will never be perfect and sometimes great girls are cut.
On the other hand, it's just as "high school" and unfair for you to judge us and call us "stupid" having never actually experienced sorority life yourself. I can honestly say that you're right; I don't have 200 bff's. Nevertheless, the sisterhood within the GPB house (and as an Aggie Greek) has blessed me with amazing bff's and a larger group of friends than I believe I would've had if I had never joined my house. Finally, I hope you will consider my words as well and maybe even consider giving recruitment another try this spring or next fall.

This is so true! And maybe that's the root of the problem people have with recruitment. It's just really tough competition out there and it only gets worse in the job market. There is no automatic bid just for participation. And there are opportunities to still join during the informal process of snap bidding now and open bidding next semester to fill the spots of seniors who graduated in December. Heard Panhellenic raised the quota after bid day for some reason, so there are open spots in several sororities now.

I do think many pnms slip through the cracks. they are not in their first choice house but they will find that the house they are in will make them very happy. Also I think some pnms in "top" house have a good chance of being very disappointed. If it weren't for greek rank... I think a lot more girls would happy with where they ended up from the beginning.
