is it all about the money?
by: discouraged pnmHow are cuts decided? I left yesterday feeling as though all of my parties went so well, only to find that almost all of the houses had cut me. I'm getting the feeling that bids are based more on appearance and money than on a girls' personality and ability to fit in and connect with other girls, and it's honestly discouraging. I can't help the fact that I don't come from a lot of money, but that's why I'm at A&M, to better myself and earn a degree so I can better provide for my family financially. I just want a group of girls who I can connect with and become close to, and I feel like I am not getting the same opportunity because my family is not wealthy. Sorry to rant.

If you still have have houses on your list --- Congrats! Many girls will be dropped by all houses today. You'll never know exactly why you got cut because every sorority does it differently and it's a secret. Recruitment is brutal and getting more competitive at A&M every year. Everyone has great grades, looks, and connections. There will be girls who are legacies and have everything going for them and a house will cut them because they have no choice. You simply can't keep everyone on your list. It's a numbers game as well. Just go through Preference and don't drop and guaranteed you'll meet great girls in any house. A lot of sorority girls aren't wealthy, of course there are some who are, but that's probably not why you go cut. About 3 of the houses do that, but certainly isn't the norm. Don't be discouraged it's just tough competition. Hang in there!! I know it kind of sucks, Everyone is soooo nice the first round and then WHAM here come the cuts! Thats how it is everywhere, competition!!!!!!

You will be better off in one of the houses that want you. Please don't focus on why you were cut. We've all been cut by some house. You are getting a fair shake at this. Money does not play that big of a part -- unless you can't afford your dues.
There will always be people in life with more money. Don't let it define you.

You can't complain that houses are judging you when you're judging them. Do you really have to have someone spell that out for you?
