blinn team sophomore

by:

If I am a blinn team sophomore about to go through rush at A&M what are the chances of making a top tier sorority? I come from a private highschool in a well known zip code and finished my first year at A&M with good grades.

No one is sure how many sororities can even take Blinn. My guess is not many. I think it's unfair not to disclose the truth before recruitment starts. Panhellenic should be telling everyone and stop the gossip going on. I expect more out of Panhellenic leadership. If it was me, I'd be calling A&M Panhellenic now and demand knowing up front what the truth is and what my chances are. And if they refused to tell me, hmmmmmmmm big red flag because if it was all 12 they would be saying that for sure.

know the membership requirements for each GLO. That falls under private membership information that is not shared with ANYONE but the members. Panhellenic does not have a right to know the answer to that question anymore than Panhellenic knows if a specific GLO requires a 3.25 or a 3.5 or a 4.0 for membership or if they only take girls with a "P" in their name somewhere. Yes, that could be an extreme example with the letter in their name (who know) but that is just how private membership groups work.

with "Panhellenic doesn't". Some of the member selection criterias aren't always known even by the entire chapter. These are things that are often times kept to a small handful of leaders within the chapter itself, and they can vary a little each year, depending on what the chapter designates as their needs. The best thing you can do is just stick with it and see what happens. It's not really in your control, except for the not dropping out part. You'll have to roll with the punches and what's meant to be will happen.

I guess I'm wondering why you are on the Blinn Team if you went to a private high school and got good grades..

the admissions process should be explained to the sorority members. This past year there were students that missed the top 25% cutoff with scores over the 1300 that did not gain full admission. IF you attend a small competitive school, let say 30 people the top 25% is up to # 7. The students could all have SAT scores of 1300+ (it IS possible for a competitive private) so anyone #8 and beyond becomes a review candidate. They are smart and would have probably been an auto admit IF they attended a lesser school, alternatively there are top 10% kids in less competitive schools who are automatically admitted with SAT scores in the 900 range or even lower. GPA is relative, in a public school you have the under achievers that earn low grades, private schools you don't. The system is flawed

The sorority members know how the admission process works. They went through it. If you were truly smarter than those that attended "lesser schools" you would have been an auto admit with an SAT of 1300 or more.

If you are only focusing on the "top" sororities, you may not get a bid. That would be entirely fine with most of the actives because we realize that all the houses here are good. If you think you're too good to be in any of the houses you are mistaken. It is an honor to receive a bid to any house and you should feel lucky if any group of girls wants you to be their sister.
