recruitment

ATTN PNM's This year's recruitment is going to be the toughest with probably the most girls going through ever!! Heard so far around 1200 and counting. Sooooooo ya better have the grades, nice attitude, class, looks, and connections because all the other girls with your group probably do. To get a top house you have to be a legacy or have huge connections as well as the looks, grades etc..... Don't even do it if you have low grades. I would say anything in the 2's is ehhhhh- big risk.

The more PNMs that go through recruitment, the BIGGER the pledge classes can be. There isn't a fixed number for pledge class size, so it doesn't make it more competitive when more PNMs sign up.

If there are 12 sororities and 1200 girls still rushing at pref, quota would be 100.

So, TAMU has about 3% out of state students, how will a girl who was outstanding enough to be admitted in that small percentage and confident enough to attend and be different by virtue of where she is from but without the "connections" or pre existing friendships from high school be received during rush?

There are certain so called "Top"houses that pretty much have their pledge class picked out due to legacies and connections from HS and families. Don't worry about it, just go through recruitment and DO NOT drop. It's a long stressful week, but if you stick it out, you'll get into a house. Especially of you have good grades and confidence. You'll meet amazing girls in every house and it'll be the best decision you'll make. Just know going in you'll be cut by houses and wonder why, but it's usually because of that. Some houses even cut based on zip code, they want status. Go through recruitment, have fun and you won't regret it. Trust me, you'll meet your best friends for life!!!

Their are so many girls bc they are letting blinn team in this girl, and they are gonna take an aggie pnm before they take a blinn team pnm...

Well, sophomore rush is completely separate from freshman rush. Every sorority MUST take a certain number of upperclassmen, and normally not very many upperclassmen rush.

I'm a mom of a pnm and attended the parent convocation yesterday. Here are the numbers given: 1358 total going through recruitment. Quota given was 80-85/house.

That quota was given based on historical information. Typically TAMU has a 75% placement rate so that quota is based on that number. It could be higher or lower based on the number of women that actually complete the process and attend at least one preference party. The wrinkle in this is the Blinn team girls. Will they all be cut or are nationals allowing the sororities to pledge them? The placement rate could be much lower this year.

That has to be a true guess... quota isn't calculated til later. Pretty optimistic with 75% return & the BT uncertainty.

that is a projected quota (keyword = projected) based on results from year's past. Quota won't be set until after pref night and there will be a freshman quota and an upperclassmen quota, which added together, they are projecting to be between 80-85.

I understand the general perception of the Blinn Team but I think there are some misconceptions regarding GPA. Consider the student who applied for A and M Engineering (most competitive department) And carried all advanced Math and Science AP classes graduated in the top 25% of class of 700 and had a 3.85 GPA. this is not a slacker student. If a Sorority does not want to choose a student of this calliber that would be a shame.

Truth of the matter is no PNM will ever know why they are released from one house to the next, BT or not. You can speculate all day, but no one will ever confirm or tell you why. If you're BT, sure it could be that, could be grades, could be not enough leadership in HS, could be no rec, could be something the PNM said during a party that would be a red flag to the girl she's holding conversation with, could be someone in the house didn't like the PNM's outfit. There are so many reasons why PNM's are released, and the chapter does not take releasing lightly. Many many hours go into this membership selection process, well after parties have ended, each day, and sometimes very late at night. Just because house ABC releases a PNM for grades, doesn't mean that's the same reason why house DEF released the same PNM on the same night. There is no way to ever find it out, so there's no use in worrying about it. Everyone is smart, otherwise you wouldn't be associated with TAMU. All you can do as a PNM or a PNM Mom is to NOT DROP or discourage dropping. That's the only part in all of this you have control over.

University of South Carolina's recruitment brought in over 1600 PNMs. I think you can handle 400 less, grow a pair.
