spring rush?

by:

Hey y'all! I am hoping to transfer to Texas A&M next spring (2015) and I was wondering how exactly spring rush works? I know that it is not a formal rush, and that not all sororities participate. Honestly I am not all about getting into a "top house" and I would happily accept a bid from any house. I will be a junior and don't know any sorority girls at TAMU. Would there even be a chance for me to receive a bid? Also, I know it is different every year, but about how many houses usually participate? Can anyone offer some advice? It would be MUCH appreciated :)

Weeeelllllll.... you said you wanted advice so here it is. I am not gonna sugar coat it for you. Honestly, you will be rushing as a junior... that will hurt you. BUT it won't hurt you nearly as much as not having any connections. I'm sorry, but in spring rush: no connections=no bid. SORRY thats just how it is!

Yeah I would have to agree with the poster above. Rushing as a junior is tough! Most girls that get bids during spring rush have connections within the house and that is what gets them the bid. You will not have any luck going through spring rush as a junior with no connections, in my opinion.

I would still try it. You never know. No house truly ever discloses how they choose and rate PNM's--there's a lot of guessing on here, and these other posters should only be speaking for their house. There's 12. If you don't end up with a bid, then nbd, at least you tried. Better than the arrogant freshman who drops after day 2 or 3 b/c her one and only choice cut her.

Can anyone give any advice as to which houses are known to extend bids to girls that they do not know during spring rush? I love meeting new people and I am very outgoing, so I think that I should be able to get along with/mesh quite well with most any house! I'd honestly be so happy to get a bid from any house!

Spring rush is very different that the Fall Recruitment, it isn't formal and you don't go to all the houses that are participating. Usually invite only for many houses, some will have an open invite announcing their first rush event. If you were expecting a more organized event (sign up here and you'll go to all the rush parties) it currently doesn't exist. There are very few openings (if any) in each house versus formal recruitment when houses can take 50-70 girls per house. Talk to Greek LIfe when you get to campus, go to the public invited events (like fundraisers) & meet some girls.

Thank you for clarifying! I knew that spring rush was not like a formal rush, but I didn't know that it was an invite-only type of thing. From what I understand, you contact the greek life office and have them put your name on a list and if sororities are interested they will invite you? Which sororities have been known to invite girls that they don't know? If any?
