texas a&m
by: northerngirlhey guys! i am from out of state and i'll be coming to texas a&m this fall (SO excited.) i've never been to texas and i'm wondering what is the general atmosphere at a&m? is there lots of southern hospitality? are there lots of country/christian/conservatives? are there lots of old fashioned respectful gentlemen? sorry if these sound like dumb questions, but these are things that i have heard, so i'm just wondering if there is any truth to them. also, is sorority rush really hard if you don't know anyone? thanks! :)

Texas is not considered a true southern state, so no there is not that southern hospitality feel. Lots of kids from suburbs of Houston and Dallas, not the country. Nobody here cares about politics and if they do, most of them are liberal. Some nice guys, but most care only about hooking up, not so much being. Respectful gentleman. No old fashioned values here. Sororotity rush will be very hard not knowing anyone. I know some of these answers might be harsh, but I don't want you to be misled about this school. Hope this helps

Texas is definitely a "true" Southern State. Maybe not Deep South (except everything east of I-35), but just as much Southern as any other non-Deep South state south of the Mason-Dixon, like Virginia, North Carolina, Florida, Tennessee and Kentucky. A lot of the stuff you're talking about either applies to A&M specifically or is ubiquitous to any school, South or otherwise. Don't kid yourself into thinking that most of the people at Bama, LSU, Ole Miss or wherever are any less interested in hook-up culture is delusional.
