mutual selection?!?!

by: PNM

how does this whole mutual selection thing work because i’ve “cut” the same sororities for open house AND philanthropy and they’re still on my sisterhood schedule so i’m confused bc i thought it was supposed to be mutual and it’s not

recruitment is mutual selection up to the point where you will return back to as many houses that want you back to fill up the maximum number of houses you can go to per round. so if houses that you want to return to don’t want you to return you won’t get invited back and instead if another house wants you back but you didn’t necessarily want to go back you will get an invite back. in other words you can’t cut houses, they cut you. the only way a girl truly cuts houses is if they all want her back, then she will only return to those she wants. you get invited back to ones you “cut” bc the houses you wanted didn’t all want you back so it’s to maximize your options since other houses do want you

PNMs only rank their preferences. PNMs do absolutely no cutting. Get that though your heads. The chapters do ALL inviting and cutting. You have all the houses that invited you back as fill you day’s/round’s party card. Stop being so stuck up and give all the chapters a chance. They must really want you since they invited you back. The other chapters did not invite you back. Get it? Stop staring at a closed door.

Mutual selection finally comes into play at Pref. That is thw first time that you get what you ranked 1st, if that house has you on their bid list.

Actually no srats have two bid lists the first is the ones they really want and the second is the one with girls that you like but don’t quite like as much. If you ranked ABC 2nd on pref night and XYZ 1st but XYZ put you on their second list and ABC put you on their first list you would go home to ABC on bid day. This is why it’s very important to be honest with the girls you talk to on pref night.

what happens if both houses put you on their second list. do you get a bid or do you become bidless?

If you attend preference you will get matched!! Sometimes Panhellenic willl even hand match people if the computer program can’t figure out where to place a pnm. If you are at a chapter on Preference, the chapter wants you in their house!!! (just not enough spots for everyone who attends pref) But they will release you before if you aren’t a good fit because there’s a chance no matter where you are on the bid list you will be in the chapter.

That is not true. The PNM’s preferences are how bid lists are matched. It does not matter if the pnm is on her #1’s second list, she will bid match to them if they have not made quota before her name comes up. Ex: if quota is 50 and the pnm is #62 on the bid list, if 15 of the PNM’s on the top bid list choose another chapter as #1, then the PNM would match to her #1.

However if all 50 of the PNM’s on the first bid list ranked the chapter #1, then that pnm would likely get her 2nd choice.

Unless - the pnm was on the 2nd list for both houses and both houses filled to quota before her name matched, then she would be matched to her #1 as a Quota Addition (unless chapter #2 was much smaller and then she would match to #2 as a QA to even our chapter sizes).
This is the scenario that used to lead to PNM’s being “cross cut” before QA’s were a thing. If a pnm “suicides” and only lists house #1 on her Pref card and therefore not maximizing her options, then she would go bidless and not be eligible for a QA.

True - with one correction. If you attend Pref AND rank all chapters whose Pref you attend on your card, then you are guaranteed a bid to one of those chapters. Either as a bid match or a Quota Addition. Neither PNM’s or chapters know who the QA’s are. Your name just is on the bid list.
