southern?
by: NorthAfter recently being accepted, I am happy to say that I will be a freshman at Texas A&M University next fall! I have been thinking about going through sorority recruitment but I'm a little worried because I'm from the North. I've heard that Texas a&m is a pretty traditionally southern and conservative school (especially the greek students) but I don't know that if that is accurate. I'm just worried about being accepted. Are there many people from the north in greek life? This is not so much a greek question but you always hear about Texas being known for "southern hospitality" and "southern gentlemen", what exactly do these mean and are these common at Texas a&m? I know it may seem like a dumb question but being from the north I'm not familiar with these things and am curious to know before I get there. Thanks you guys!

I've never been on this website before but felt the need to reply. I was raised my entire life in the state of New York and went through the same worry when I was rushing fraternities and I was just honest with people and found the right chapter for me in Phi Delt. A&M is one of the most conservative schools in the nation but heading into sorority life you don't need to worry. The sororities here are awesome and being a yankee won't be the thing to inhibit your acceptance.
Best of luck!

Be careful what you believe on this site, many on here just enjoy stirring up trouble & bashing Texas A&M. This is not a site for real information for the most part, no ownership of comments= not necessarily true, students here nor even greek. There are rivalries within TX guessing #4 is a Tsip (goes to University of Texas).

Southern gentlemen don't have to be country. Southern gentlemen dress more preppy, are more "old south", live a more polished lifestyle.
Country/redneck guys wear those dark jeans which have those edgy designs, they wear plaid shirts a lot, drive trucks, love camo and oakleys and the brand Realtree.
