honestly....
by: StudentHonestly... If you don't know any sorority women at A&M do you stand a chance of getting a bid?? I've heard some people say it matters and some people say it doesn't. If otherwise you are a good candidate is it ok not to have connections?! I'm looking for a completely honest answer. Any advice is appreciated

It's good to have connections honestly. But it's also good to have a steller resume. You may not get the absolute top houses without connections (which may be through the alumnae who writes your rec, by the way), but you will at least get a houses with lovely sisters.

You won't know unless you try. Get rec letters from every house (contact your local panhel. association and they can help). It's hard to believe you don't know any sorority women, though! We are usually a pretty active/involved on campus type. Go through recruitment with an open mind and you won't be disappointed!
If you don't want to do formal recruitment there might be COR opportunities in the spring. Get to know some sorority women to find out.

There are some houses that primarily pick girls that are from their area. So be prepared to be cut by those houses. The others are more diverse so it doesn't happen as much and you have a fighting chance not knowing anyone going into recruitment. It will be tougher for you, and you will be frustrated but you need to remember it isn't you, it's your address & lack of contacts. On the flip side the reason this is an issue is that the girls in those houses are faced with huge numbers of little sisters, best friends, teammates, camp friends, etc. that they actually have known for years versus you- so much easier to cut a non-relationship based PNM earlier and then have to cut some of those relationship girls (they don't all make it either). But there are many great houses that don't fall into that category. Go into it with an open mind and I'm sure you'll find a house you love. Personally, I didn't know anyone either and I'm very happy with my house. Good luck & go greek!

I attend a small university (with no greek life) outside of Texas and I'm planning on transferring, so I don't know many people in Texas at all. I might also add that I will be a sophomore if/when going through recruitment. I am sure every house at A&M is full of great girls and I'd be happy to be a part of any house. However I am curious as to which houses are super selective meaning only picking girls from a certain area or girls they know. I will definitely keep an open mind but I'd like to know which houses I should most expect that from? And thanks for all the advice everyone!

That's really hard to say because PNM's are released for various reasons, not just geographic location. Plus, anyone who knows what specific things their house releases a PNM on isn't ACTUALLY going to disclose that anywhere, especially on this site. Others might suspect things from other houses, but they're just guessing. All I can say is keep your grades up, get into A&M, get as many rec letters as you can, and stick with it through the end. If you make it to Pref night, you will get a bid somewhere.
