recruitment

My daughter so very much wanted to be in a sorority but coming from a humble background, we did not know about letters of references or anything so she went on her own without anything. She transferred from a school that did not have sororities and was so very much wanting to be Greek at A&M. She met a lot of friends and had a nice time, but was cut each day by the ones she liked and had to drop completely on Friday before bid day Saturday. Sadly, because she is already a sophomore, this is it. For anyone reading this, we found out too late that you have to have letters of recommendation and/or be a legacy if you want to go Greek at A&M. Otherwise, don't go through rush thinking you will get a bid, just go to make new friends and have friends who are not Greek because if you show up without your rec letters, you won't get in.My daughter so very much wanted to be in a sorority but coming from a humble background, we did not know about letters of references or anything so she went on her own without anything. What is that supposed to mean? A d pi is not a "lesser sorority" just because they are in a rebuilding phase. Attitudes like that will keep the entire Greek system weak at A&M.

did some research and ADPi is one of the top national sororities (like all the others at A&M). This would be a good opportunity for her to get in on the ground floor of rebuilding a chapter of a top organization. I'd encourage your daughter to go through informal recruitment before her Junior year

Being from a humble background doesn't mean that you can't read the instructions panhellenic sends out. They say it's best to get recs. Every town or nearby city has panhellenic orgs that help girls get recs.

Being from a humble background doesn't mean that you don't ask questions about things you intend to do and find out as much as you can.

I'm annoyed that the poster tried to blame all her daughter's problems on being from a humble background. Lots of us are from very humble backgrounds but we take the time to figure out what's going on.

Sounds like the original poster wants something to blame.

Would think that if you were smart enough to get into A and M, you would research and know what to do. The comment to AD Pi was uncalled for. We should want all the sororites to do well and stop bashing other group. I hope that ADPi continues their hard work.

You can't blame failure to do your homework on being of "humble means."

The one house that kept her is not a true sorority at A&M, I understand why she dropped out on Friday. They will take anyone with a heartbeat and don't release anyone. Over 100 girls dropped out of recruitment because despite telling them in each party they were not interested in their house the sorority continued to invite them back. They release very very very few girls supposedly. I don't know of anyone released from them just girls that dropped out or suicided since they couldn't get them off their list and didn't want to be Greek if they couldn't get in the other house. Girls generally cry because of who is not on their not who is on the bid card like the girls that pray they didn't get that sorority but they find they did. Panallanic has given them all types of advantages but they still can barely get 1/2 of quote on Bid day then they drop. It's time for this sorority to be removed from campus. They are the ADPis!

You don't understand at all. Your daughter still wouldn't have gotten a bid from another house

I can't believe someone actually wrote that on here about a fellow Panhellenic sorority! No wonder 3 sororities have already closed here! Every time one chapter closes, the "next" up on the tier system is the next target of tent talk. For those of you on here in lower-tier chapters (and you know who you are), I suggest you support all A&M sororities because if you don't, YOU'RE NEXT to close.

I feel really bad for anyone who dropped out of recruitment because they had ADPi. I've seen their new pledge class and they're really cute and I see them all over campus--you missed out on a good opportunity.

Actually they are a true sorority at A&M. I'm sorry your daughter would rather be unaffiliated than find a sorority home. But that's all right. Sororities are not for everyone. Your daughter may have decided that she was too good for ADPi, but you may notice that she was not good enough for anyone else.

And for those who bash ADPi, just think what will happen if they are removed from campus. The sorority who is perceived as the next least desirable will suddenly be the WORST sorority ever and won't be able to make quota.

Everyone should support all the houses. That's the only way to have a strong, robust Greek system.

I see ADPi girls around and they look like they are having fun. This chapter seems more involved, they do crush parties, have formal, do Big Event just like the other houses. They seem to be close, have a nice house. Yes I think they are a true sorority. If PNMs would stop listening to the tent talk that is put out there by the other houses, this group could be a desired group.

All greeks need to support eachother and stop bashing eachother.

I am the first in my family to rush. no letters of rec, no legacy (obviously). I had a full party list every day
