recruitment cuts

by: ?

What’s the biggest thing most sororities look at in making the first round cuts? Some of them don’t make sense when you see a lot of really cute girls axed by certain houses that early. Asking for a sad friend....

I agree and would like to know too. I have a friend who had a ton of rec letters for a couple of sororities that she really liked and she thought the interviews went really well but got cut.

a lot of sororities have grade requirements where if you don’t meet them, you automatically get cut, even if they loved you

Rec letters always help but at the end of the day, the current chapter members are the ones who decide. Not your mom’s friend who was in ABC sorority 35 years ago. If you went to a big high school or a cool summer camp or are in Young Life your chances are better than a gorgeous, smart girl who went to podunk high school.

Grades and recs are the two “easiest” things to cut for, especially after the first round when the strongest rushing chapters are cutting 50-70% of the PNM’s.

I’ve been in the room when my chapter has made the invitation lists. We’ve released PNM’s early for those two, but many more, reasons:
-not enough votes. The couple of girls who met you could have really liked you but you need more than 2-3 votes to move to the next round....that’s those “connections” you always hear about
-questionable reputation
-PNM’s with sitting sisters at A&M. It’s fun to steal a sitting sister but it’s rare they don’t pledge with their sister. It’s risky keeping them around after Open House. Same with PNM’s who have close cousins on campus or triple+ legacies to other chapters.
-Legacies we know we won’t bid get released early so they can keep their options open

False on grades being a BIG factor from so called “strongest chapters” reason for cutting ... when girls go to same school , they know the rankings of their classmates ... 3 girls got cut ( cute and great reps ) and their lower rank friends ( 1 with questionable rep ) Made it through ! Try another excuse . Such a BS !!!!!

I find this hard to believe. My friend was cut for a "strong rushing chapter". She has a 4.0, had a rec letter from a very influential alumni, along with multiple support letters. It seem to go well with the few girls that talked to her. Her social media is squeaky clean because she is. So I honestly don't think there is any rhyme or reason why they chose some over another. Luck of the draw.

Trust me, nothing about rush in a top chapter is “random” or “luck of the draw”. It doesn’t mean the actives who met your “friends” didn’t like them. It means when those chapter had to cut 500+ PNMs after the first round, there were other PNM’s who were just higher on their list. Having a rec written by an influential alumna is great, but having 25 actives in the chapter who are your besties from 10+ years at Camp Longhorn or Waldemar is better.

Very few PNM’s have a “Mark” against them like QR, GPA, or no rec. Almost all PNM’s have good grades, a fabulous resume, and are personable and someone most girls would be friends with. That’s not enough to get you into most top chapters where connections are needed.

This week is highly emotional and you won’t get answers about why you were released from certain houses. Once you’re on the “other side” you’ll see how many PNM’s your chapter releases that would have been great members for any sorority! Keep that in mind as you go through the week. Most of the girls in mid-tier houses could have been in top ones of the criteria were strictly personality, looks, resume, grades, and sisterhood potential.
