how to get rec letters
by: PnmIn the university I’m transferring from (which is a small A&M branch), there’s no Panhellenic sororities. The only type of Greek life here are from the multicultural ones that most people I know are from. Could I get a letter of rec from girls on those sororities? I’m transferring as a junior and I know it would really help to get one.

I think I saw this asked somewhere else and someone already answered you. So no, multi cultural sororities are not the same thing. There are 14 sororities at A&M , you should get a letter of rec for each . Go to your local Panhellenic website, or the city nearest to you’s website and get connected with local alums to get them to write you a letter.

This is how rec letters work: you need at least 1 rec letter for every chapter at A&M written by an alumna of each sorority. They aren’t general recommendation letters (like from a random teacher recommending you for a scholarship award). They are written by women specifically recommending you for membership in their particular sorority.
Therefore you need to find a Kappa Kappa Gamma alumna to write your Kappa rec and a DG alumna to write your DG rec and a Gamma Phi Beta alumna to write your Gamma Phi rec.
You are really late to be starting on this so I would recommend you make a nice Facebook post and tag your mom/ grandmas saying that you’re excited to transferrto A&M and go through sorority recruitment and you’re wondering if anyone sorority alumnae can help you with rec letters. Then list out all the chapters here. Hopefully that will help you get a few quick recs done and you can work to track down the rest of them. Ask your mom’s friends, your grandma’s friends, your good friends’ moms and sisters, favorite teachers you’re in touch with, women from church or your current / former jobs, etc. You’re going to need to do some legwork to get these as most chapters wanted them by May 1 or July 1 at the latest. As a junior you realistically have ONE chance to go Greek so it’s time to put in the effort.
Do you have a social resume pulled together along with transcripts and a professional looking headshot & full body shot? You need to have your rush packets together so as soon as you find someone to write it, you can get it to them. Oh, and don’t forget to write thank you notes!!

IFTFY - alumnae not alumni, sororities not sorority's. Try to do better.
