do they cut you based on how much money u have?
by: anon.I have heard rumors that some sororities cut you based on the amount of money your family has. Is this true? If so, which sororities?

One of the biggest rush rumors is some variation on the “zip coding” myth:
1. The chapters google / Zillow each PNM’s home address and cut anyone from a not nice / less expensive home.
2. The chapters blanket cut everyone who lives in “bad” / “poor” zip codes OR the chapter only keeps PNM’s who live in certain zip codes.
Both are not true though some chapters do seem to be more full of rich girls and/or have pushier alumnae promoting pnm’s from “good” families.

I went to high school in one of the “right” zip codes and Kappa still asked me questions about what kind of car I drive, where my family vacations (in a way that made it clear they were finishing for financial info and not just curious about my summer), and about my dad’s job. They cut me after Philanthropy. So weird as I got a bid from another house that has a reputation for zip coding and they never asked anything.
And I don’t think anyone actually “zip codes”, it’s just more about preferring PNM’s they know (who are also from the same high schools). It’s not like a super awkward girl from Memorial or Hockaday is getting a bid to Tri Delt or Kappa just because she grew up there. If the girls don’t like her / don’t know her, she’s cut. And it’s harder for a random cute / involved girl from Athens or Wichita Falls to get a bid to a top house, not because of zip coding but because there aren’t many girls from those towns in any sororities. It’s all about connections.
