thursday is 'cross-cut' day?
by: GoGreek
Seems to me that Thursday is the day a PNM can 'cross-cut' themselves. The whole 'maximize your options and you're guaranteed a bid' is just a marketing ploy. Choose the wrong two houses on Thursday and it's 'thanks for coming out-later'.
Or am I missing something?\n\n\n\n\n

I see someone reposted something I had written on another thread above.
To answer your question, pnms cannot "cross cut" themselves because PNM's DON'T CUT HOUSES. The only thing pnms do all week is rank the houses they'd like to return to in preference order. So if ANY of your Sisterhood houses invite you to pref, you'll have at least one pref invitation and the ability to "maximize your options" to get a guaranteed bid. If multiple houses invite you to pref, your 2 pref parties will be determined by the order you listed your Sisterhood round parties.

I don't understand what the OP is saying or questioning. If you go to all your parties on Thursday and rank them all, PNMs can't cut themselves. They'll only be totally dropped if you don't show up ANYWHERE on anyone's invite back list. Which is really really really rare on sisterhood day. Houses invite double or triple their quota size to preference round anyways, so the chances that you are on at least one list is very high. And if you go to pref with at least one house, you are guaranteed a bid.
Anyways, since sororities started using RFM (aka, computers to do rankings), cross cutting is impossible. It's just a myth now because it used to be a thing before the early 2000s when a lot of our moms/aunts went through. It can't exist now.
#8by: OP is spot on. period.
You're spot on OP:
"Choose the wrong two houses on Thursday and it's 'thanks for coming out-later'."
The houses that weren't in your top 2?... Yea, you'll get invited back from #3,4 and 5 house, IF...IF that house didn't fill up!...
But when they do fill up... what should you call it when this happens?... call it what it is... you got cross-cut.
flawed system.
