letters of recommendation for recruitment
by: TAMU21Okay, so I'm going to be a freshman next year and plan on going through sorority recruitment. I've registered with my local panhellenic alumni and they said they will write my recommendation forms/RIFS. Do I need to find alumni to write me letters of support for each sorority as well? Also, one of my teachers was in a sorority, but A&M doesn't have the sorority she was in. Can she still write me a letter of support?

You don't need a letter from an alum of a sorority that we don't have. Standard is to get atleast on rec letter for every sorority. If you're very interested in a certain sorority or if you just know multiple alums from a certain sorority you should get more letters. The additional letters are sometimes referred to as letters of support instead of rec letters. Get atleast 2 for the top sororities/ the ones you're very interested in.

Oh, sweetie, no. Here's how recs work:
1. You need to find 1-2 alumnae of the sororities we have at A&M to write recs for you.
2. These women do NOT have to be alumnae of the A&M chapters - ie, a UT Zeta alumna or a SMU AXO can write your recs for A&M Rush.
3. The rec writers will send your Rec directly to their sorority house at A&M. This means that a DG alumna will only send her rec to the DG house. A DG can't write your Kappa rec. Also, someone from a sorority that isn't on A&M's campus can't write you a letter at all.
4. You'll need to make a packet for each rec writer that includes your social resume, 2 5X7 pics (headshot and full body, classy pics not prom or swimsuit pics), and your transcript. Don't forget to write them thank you notes as recs take a lot of time!
5. Pick the sorority alumnae who know you best. Those women will write the strongest recs!
