by:

What are the fraternity dues like here? I'll be attending next year and would like to budget the expense.

Thanks :)

The most I've heard is $1800 for your pledge semester but typically it's anywhere from $900-$1500 or so I think. The $1800 is just one fraternity here, that's not necessarily the norm.

It depends if you're talking about flat dues or dues + other fees that might get tacked on. In general you can honestly sort it out by tier,

Top tier frats (KA, Fiji, SAE, SigEp): $2,500-$3,000 a year
Mid tier frats (Delt, Beta, SX, Pike): about $2.000 a year
The smaller frats range from about $500-$2,000 a year

If you want an accurate picture, I'd throw in between $200-$1,000 a year to that price tag if you plan on fully participating in everything a chapter has to offer.

Note that none of this accounts for living in one of the fraternity houses or being on any sort of payment plan. I also know that some chapters give out scholarships. Some also give special benefits to executive members or have different levels of membership

Yeah this is correct

Why is this getting downvoted? People deserve to know how to plan their money

i'm in one of the top tiers listed so i can confirm that we pay around $2500 a year just for dues plus around $200-$500+ for social dues/shirts/miscellaneous stuff. i cannot say for sure about other frats but @Realanswer is right about it being grouped by tier

Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity

Meeting of the National Board of Directors
April 8 and 9, 2016

San Francisco, California

Substance-Free Housing

The Board discussed the report and how substance-free policy would best be implemented and enforced.

National Director Kief moved the Board to mandate substance-free facilities at all newly chartered chapters moving forward. Seconded by National Director Cynthia Love. Motion passed by unanimous 12-0 vote. Warren confirmed that discussions will continue and a suggested plan of action for fraternity-wide substance-free facilities adoption and budget implications will be presented at the fall meeting.

What does that have to do with anything on this thread?

"For all newly chartered chapters moving forward"

Has nothing to do with any established chapters like the one here

Looked it up. It's true that Sig Ep chapters that are newly founded in the future will probably have dry houses but it doesn't effect any existing chapters. This is for founding new chapters at tiny little schools no one's heard of

Could mean re-colonized chapters too. Nationals would then use charter revocation as way to flip chapters to "dry" just like they did with pledging to Balanced Man Program.

No. They won't vote against it because it doesn't effect them. All houses are not going dry. Newly colonized and chartered ones are

If this is forced, they could go local and independent.

KA did it at UT and seems to be making a come back, so it's definitely possible. That said, Sig Ep here won't do that since this doesn't have anything to do with them

And if/when it does matter to them ... ? Who knows, maybe they need to go dry, no tobacco, no whatever, in order to get their grades up, to mix with sororities, or to keep their own alums happy.

Doubt that the alumni would donate money to a dry house.

They already good grades and sorority relations, why would going dry make either of those things any better? Also, why would alumni care one bit whether or not the house was dry when donating? Also, is banning tobacco even a thing? And why is this even a conversation? It doesn't apply to the thread or even anything having to do with the A&M chapter.

Maybe my fraternity is run way differently than Sig Ep is, but it all seems like none of this would matter at all

This is GR. 90% of people on here are just trying to find ways to make other chapters look bad, doesn't matter if its true or makes sense or not. My guess is all these comments are coming from the same person lol. Probably the same guy who took the time to sift through a bunch of minutes from an organization he has no stake in. Just saying

Membership in Sigma Phi Epsilon is a right, not a privilege. This right comes with high expectations. Balanced Men are expected to participate in the chapter experience to improve themselves, their chapter, their campus and their community.
