When a sorority comes on campus, a team from the national office (often with help from local alumnae or a nearby collegiate chapter) host formal recruitment events that culminate with bids being offered to women who make up the first new member class, or colonizing class.
Once the new chapter completes its new member period, it is installed as an official chapter by the national office.
