rec letters
by: PNMHow bad is it gonna hurt me if I only have rec letters for half of the houses? I'm a transfer student (from a four year college) with a stellar GPA. I work in customer service so I'm pretty good at keeping up conversations with strangers. I know some houses will cut me for not having a rec letter but will it hurt me substantially?

Not having recs is one of the ways cuts are made during the first few rounds! So you may be cut from some of the houses you don't have recs for! Don't worry too much about it now though, there is nothing you can do at this point. You will be fine and have fun! It will be okay!

It depends on which half of the houses you have recs for. Some houses have national policies that PNM's must have a rec to pledge. Some houses have to cut so many girls after round 1 that recs and grades are the easiest two things to cut for to get down to the number of invites they're allowed to extend for round 2. Some houses are a little more laid back about recs.
I would go in expecting big cuts and be happy if it's not as bad as expected. I hope you are open minded about joining all houses.

My house is one with a national policy to require recs - it's a top house at A&M, but there are campuses where we are mid-tier and even bottom-tier and recs are still required at those schools, too - hence, national policy.
I don't know every house's policy....just be ready for deep cuts without recs.

I'm guessing some of the bigger and "more popular" houses are the ones that require recs?
