grades

by:

I'm rushing as transfer student, and my GPA is a 2.8. I have a good resume from my high school and first year of college, but I've had some really bad family occurrences that made me miss a lot of school and negatively affected me. I know right of the bat, some sororities will just cut me based off of that number, but I'd like the chance to explain what happened in my life and my GPA since I'm normally a great student. Will I get the change or should I expect to have steep cuts? Also, how should I bring this up?? Thanks.

It depends on the sorority but usually chapters will cut lathr amounts of girls aftdr the first grades because
Of either grades or no recs. with so many girls coming through it's the easiest way to block release. If you know any girls in the sororities already make sure they know your circumstance so that they can vouch for you during work week and not trying to do so once Rush has already started. If you don't know anyone, your best chance is to explain it during parties. Try to get to know them first though, don't say it first thing at a party. And also try to bring it up naturally in conversation. If she likes you and knows your circumstance then she can vouch for you!

This is why recs are SO important. Your rec writers should have noted the reason for your low freshman GPA on your rec so houses had the info up front.

Most houses have to release so many girls after Round 1 that if you're already on that list for not having a rec or being a grade risk, it's too late.

Did you get recs??

Also- do NOT explain whatever the family tragedy was negatively impacted you during the Open House round. It's not appropriate conversation for the less than 5-6 minutes you'll spend talking to the different girls in each house, and actually might hurt you worst than your GPA. Focus on positive, friendly, safe conversation topics that make your personality shine through!

i actually don't really agree with that... yeah, only talk about it if it comes up naturally, but if a girl understanda your situation she can fight for you and explain it to the chapter and MAYBE keep you from being cut right away. try to work it into the conversation naturally.
