So what's the deal with AOPi colonizing this semester? How's that going to work?

They'll do their own rush for their colonizing class once the semester starts, selecting not only women who didn't find a home during rush but women from all classes. Probably have an info session, interviews conducted by the national colony team, and then a pref event. Each round after the info session will be by invitation only. This is pretty typical process for a new colony.

So basically they're going to do it after rush and just get the girls who got cut or didn't accept any bids?

Not exactly. Let's say they have a goal to have a colonizing class of 180 women. They might be looking for 25-30 seniors and 50-60 from each of the freshman through junior classes. Less than 1/3 of the colonizing class will be freshmen and probably half of those girls will not have even gone through formal recruitment. Girls will get to campus and realize they wish they had rushed, or maybe their mom or another relative is an AOPi and they'll want to check it out.

Every year there are great girls who don't get bids during formal rush- maybe they simply slipped through the cracks or they dropped out when other houses released them. Those girls could be great colonizing class members if they're interested!

Honestly, it's a good year to be rushing because if formal rush doesn't go the way you want, you still have another chance before fall 2017.

I'm not trying to be rude, I really and truly feel that this was unfair to their chapter. Let's be realistic...

I get your point. It seems like it might be easier to start something new and get AOPi off to a strong start than to turn around ADPi. Both are a lot of hard work though! The only new (under 20 years old) house that has really succeeded at A&M is DG. Gamma Phi and KD have never really made it into solid mid-tier territory.

The difference is that ADPi has a very strong base here in TX and the SEC. They have a ton of alumni support and have made huge strides in a short time. I wouldn't discount them yet. GPB and KD are doing fine!

Wish AOpi the best.

Panhellenic wouldn't have brought AOPi in if ADPi wasn't on solid footing. They've been wanting to bring in another sorority for a while because greek life is growing ridiculously fast at A&M, and they were finally able to because of ADPi's growth the past couple years.

Rushing will most likely be done by alum

AOPi is going to have a tough time getting the strong foot they need to be successful, mainly with housing. I think they'll start off ok bc ppl want to be a part of something new but members will get frustrated if they don't secure housing fast. It's going to cost an insane amount of money to pull something off since they will have to buy an already existing structure and tear it down. There's a reason they're the only sorority to apply during the expansion process.

They will be fine as long as they have good support from alums with housing plans.

When Gamma Phi colonized w/ about 170 members it was Sept/Fall 2003.
Chartered Spring/2004.
Moved into their completely reno'd house for Rush in Fall/2007.
