why does everyone say gphi is going down
by: PNMWhy does gphi seem to be going down hill? Is it worth joining or should i not go greek at all if i get this house?
#2by: probably bc
GPhi has not been here long enough to have ever been considered one of the better sororities. There are some aspects they haven't quite worked out (good fraternity relations, philanthropy, grades) and they do have a strange collection of girls. There's nothing in particular you could use to categorize the girls, which I think destroys their chances of a sense of unity and causes the high drop out rate (this past year it was over a dozen girls and yes I know this for a fact). However, I do know a buuuunch of girls who love it. I'm not going to say you would for sure like it if you joined since I don't think that's true for any sorority, but I know some great people who think it's totally worth it and who found lifelong friends. But there are still people who did not think it could work for them and dropped. If you get a bid from them I would go with it for at least bid day and see if it seems like a good fit, but I would suggest that to someone questioning any sorority at this school

#7by: ok OP here you go
It seems like nobody on this site looks at the good things the sororities do each year (I mean that's expected, it's greek rank). But Gamma Phi has been improving lately regardless of what everyone says. This past year was the first year in a while since they have been chosen to participate in songfest and stompfest... even if they didn't do well or place in either event, they are making strides in the right direction. As far as grades go, they may be the lowest, but they still have a house GPA above the university women's GPA. Their philanthropy isn't "irrelevant"; their Crescent Classic last year raised more than they ever have before. As far as the high drop out rate-maybe this chapter wasn't for those girls. But for the ones who did stay involved, every gamma phi I know loves their sorority. No, Gamma Phi is not a top house, maybe not even a middle tier house, but they definitely aren't "going down". They have only been on campus for about 10 years; people just need to give them a break and give them a chance to improve (and should you get a bid from them, you should do the same, don't drop greek life).
