thinking of dropphing gphi

by:

im a freshman in Gamma Phi Beta and im thinking about dropping because my pledge class is split into a ton of cliques and a lot of the girls are really cold. I stopped going to crush parties because none of our girls would show up and it was always really awkward. Kind of like a middle school dance. Should i stick with it and see if my time improves or just cut my losses and drop like my friends?

i would cut your losses. if you are in an environment that fosters such hate and disdain for on another then leave before you become like it. GPhi has been decreasing in the last 4 or 5 pledge classes so many consider them "Bottom of the barrel" tier.

Not worth all the money you pay just to "stick with it"

I'm going to play along and assume you're not a troll.

My advice is to give it one more shot your sophomore year. Keep going to events, sign up to help on committees, and really try to stay involved as much as possible. The friend groups will shift again sophomore year, especially as girls move into the house. Some of those different cliques will join into bigger groups as time goes on. I felt like a "floater" my freshman year at my house. My big was a junior and I lived in a not very Greek dorm. My sophomore year I got really involved and found my tribe.

When i joined my sorority as a freshmen at A&M, i felt the same way. Freshmen year is super hard and its easy to form cliques. But my sophomore year i saw such a dramatic change in how the "cliques" dissolved and everyone became close. Have you tried talking to your president about how you're feeling? Or even another Exec? Let them know, they can help you and they'll help you feel more involved. Don't throw in the towel without giving it a fair shot. Theres a reason you picked Gamma Phi and they picked you, don't sell that short because of the doubts you're having now. Give it time, branch out. You'll never win if you don't get out there and play.

My advice to you as someone who stayed in their sorority at TAMU all four years would be DO NOT QUIT! My freshman year was awful. I had a hard time with classes, making friends in greek life etc. Its sort of just what happens to a lot of girls before you have adjust to being in college. When I got my big in spring, I never hung out with her because she was older and I could not go out and party. I felt like I had made a mistake.

I honestly did not make my best friends until I got a little, and then I started hanging out with my littles friends and their bigs etc. It's really about making a few connections to start a bigger network of friends. If you drop now, you will miss out on your big little that you can make exactly how you want it to be because you are the big!

Also, I recommend experiencing at least one recruitment on the inside before you drop. In those two weeks you will go from not knowing anybody to knowing the name, birth place, and favorite everything of ALL 200 girls in the house. Not even exaggerating. Those are the times you will feel closer than ever to your chapter.

Hope this helps!

I'm not sure you should cut your losses. I hear their karaoke team is really above par. Is that really something you just want to throw away? Sure there vegetable garden is having a little trouble but their corn is doing really well. Really think about this KARAOKE AND CORN I mean that is gonna be hard to lose. #PISTACHGALOUT

@ OP,
In your orignal post you mention... "should I drop like my friends"
In your follow up post you mention... "I have other friends in other sororities and I am jealous of them"

Can you focus on making deeper connections with your sisters instead of listening and following your friends? It sounds like you are heavily influenced by what others think and do. Not a terrible thing but maybe it's time to give yourself a chance to find your own way. If you drop you will never have this sisterhood opportunity again.

Volunteer to head a committee that interacts with a lot of sisters you don't know well. Then volunteer to be a contributing member of a different committee and be the best contributor by actively helping your sisters. Don't wait for them to come to you. Contact them first to help out. The best way to make real friends in your sisterhood is to contribute.

Are you waiting for others to come to you? I know it can be hard, but it's so much easier if you volunteer to help others.

This looks to me like another hater comment posted by someone whose house doesn't recruit as well as Gamma Phi. I have several friends in that house and the comment is ridiculous.

Why would someone post something like this in the middle of the summer? The follow-on postings sound too much like original post.

Anybody with any class would encourage this sister (...if real) to try to change what is going wrong and get involved with the chapter.

seems legit to me. shes sad that her sorority isnt competing and not satisfied with what shes paying HUGE amounts of money for. if the organization is not worth it anymore i say do whatever you feel is best for your self.
