guaranteed bid?
by: RushDo all girls that rush get a bid to a sorority? How likely is it to not get one?
#1by: hi!
although I have heard of girls getting cut from every house, it is highly unlikely. this would have to be done before pref night. after pref, if you rank the maximum number of houses possible (DO NOT SUICIDE) you will get a bid. as in it is 100% guaranteed. BUT if you play it dumb and suicide and the house you put didn't want you, you get no bid and are dropped from recruitment.

No, you are not guaranteed a bid if you go through rush. You are ONLY guaranteed a bid if you make it to pref AND if you list EVERY house you prefffed on your card. Then, and only then, are you guafanteed a bid to one of your pref houses, This is what is called "maximizing your options" during rush.
Fewer than 5-6% of PNM's end up with no party invitations at some point during rush week. They are usually girls with "questionable" moral reputations, girls with no recs, upperclassmen who are grade risks, or the occasional super awkward girl. The majority of girls who don't get bids choose to drop out because they don't like the houses that invited them back or girls who suicide on pref night (i.e., didn't maximize their options).

I know a couple girls who got completely cut. However, these were girls that probably weren't right for sorority life overall, in my opinion. It definitely happens, but don't worry about it too much. What is much more common is to have 2-3 houses left, but they aren't the houses you personally want, so you voluntarily drop.

It's more common than you think. It's just something people don't talk about much. If you make it to pref night and pref ALL houses you are invited to, you will get a bid to one of them, so don't quit or give up on the process. Just because you don't get your first choice doesn't mean you HAVE to be initiated. Give it a try, you'll probably be surprised.
