pnm rec letters

by:

So far I just have one letter of rec for each sorority house but I've heard people say you need 2 or 3... Should I be getting more?

You need rec and a few letters of support. So for the houses you're extremely interested in, I'd have 1 Rec and 1 letter of support. Basically the same thing just make sure and have two in total.

I couldn't find any for KAT or GPHIB, these are not houses I'm super interested in. is it ok that I just don't do any for them? I cannot find any alumnae in my area that I know personally.

You'd better get that attitude checked. The sororities are the ones who do the picking. Every year there are hundreds of stuck up girls like you who are devastated because all the top chapters they think they want drop them quickly. You are not too good for any chapter.

wasn't at all trying to say I was too good for chapters. these are just two specifically that I've struggled to find recs for, but I will definitely check with local Panhellenic :)

How is it possible that you can't find any Thetas?! It's one of the largest sororities in the NPC.

If you don't know any Thetas, have you tried asking the other women writing your recs if they can introduce you to a Theta alumn? Sorority women tend to know other sorority women.

a rec to Theta for sure. They are a great chapter and there are tons in TX. Don't know about GPB. I would get one anyway.

Some houses (if not all) will deduct points for not having recs or support

Top 3 Things PNMs get dropped for
1. Poor reputation
2. Low GPA
3. No recs

Also, some sororities have a national policy that you must have a rec to pledge. My chapter is one of those sororities.

Your local Panhellenic association has members in pretty much every sorority and can provide you with rec letters for most if not all sororities. Most girls use this method, especially if they don't personally know alumni.

OMG that girl freaking out because you couldn't find recs for theta and gphib needs to calm down. You're totally fine girl. I came in without recs to certain houses not because I thought I was too good but because I actually didn't know how to get a letter for that house. Which is fine but since you know I'd do your best to get in contact with your local Panhellenic! Or have your mom post on her Facebook asking if anyone's an alumn of those two!

There are thousands of Alumnae living in Texas that can refer you to Gamma Phi Beta and Kappa Alpha Theta alumnae.

Rec letters are important but each house has different standards. I can tell you right now that it will be okay that you don't have a rec letter for g phi because my best friend didn't have one either and made it all the way to pref night with them. she's not a g phi because she made a different choice. but just know that they will not instantly cut you because you don't have a letter. as for theta I am not sure

By: don't worry

I don't know what Gamma Phi's rec policy is, but your friend who got a bid should not assume that she didn't have a rec. Sometimes alumnae groups get together to ensure all of the sought after local high school girls have recs & if they haven't been asked they will just write one anyway and send it. Some chapters will track down recs during rush if a star pnm doesn't have one. Recs are mandatory to pledge in my chapter & I know we have gotten alumnae to write 1-2 recs during rush on rare occasions when top pnms don't have one.

She may have made it to pref but I can assure you someone was tasked with obtaining for a rec for her if they were really going to pledge her.

And as you said, you don't really know about Theta.

When are rec letters due?

Most PNM's who are serious about rush lined up their recs in the spring so they would arrive at the houses before school got out.

The technical due date is August I think but every week that goes by without your recs being mailed off is one less week the house has to check you out before rush. You need to get recs lined up yesterday, especially to the more selective houses.
