advice for frats
by: Truth
Too much time is spent on this website tearing down chapters rather than actually evaluating them and trying to improve greek life. As someone getting ready to graduate, here's some constructive criticism for all the fraternities here:
Fiji - Ya'll are a top house, but that position is far from secure. If you want to stay that way:
-Branch out. Greek life is expanding. You can't continue to recruit purely from the same 3 or 4 high schools you have been. You're limiting your demographic and recruitment pool and losing out on a lot of high quality members
-Stop zip coding as a primary recruitment measure. You're letting in a lot of guys beneath your standards simply based on where they grew up
-Stop trying to exclude others. The rest of the fraternities are building a community that you refuse to be a part of. And while it's okay to play favorites to certain sororities, stop excluding the ones you think are beneath you. It really damages your popularity with girls.
-Focus more on social life & parties. Ya'll are the best in almost every other dimension but barely compete with lower tiers when it comes to ya'lls events.
-Improve your property or get one closer to campus

Beta - ya'll are barely holding onto top tier and are losing it. If you want to climb back up:
-Get a fraternity house. The "Beta Barn" is lame. Period.
-Drop the cowboy act/dress. It might have worked in the past but these days it honestly just makes you look stupid.
-Focus more on social life/parties, ya'll aren't competing very well here.
-Get more involved, you don't have much of a presence on campus anymore.
-Work on branding a specific culture for yourselves and the guys you recruit. Simply taking the Fiji and KA "leftovers" isn't working
Delt - ya'll constantly in a flux between middle and top tier and have been regressing, if you want to get back up there:
-Stop focusing on Fajitas & Rita's. It hasn't been good in a while, spend your money elsewhere instead of using all your funds on one party
-Focus on your brotherhood. The lack of bonding & respect is very noticeable.
-Seriously work on the way you treat girls. Your members need to be more respectful. You are quickly gaining a very bad reputation
-It's okay to have blinn girls and GDIs at your events. But when there's more of them than there are sorority girls, there's a problem. Work on it
-Stay out of trouble

Everyone should try and better themselves everyday! Why are chapters and organizations any different? Bettering yourself through selfless service and loyalty is the Aggie way, so why not apply it to our houses--both fraternities and sororities. It only makes our system stronger as a whole. No one house is perfect and everyone can improve.
