Why was Madi alone at the bar?

by: ://

Why was nobody watching out for her? Why was she allowed to leave the bar alone with randos? I've never been sadder ://

"a 19-year-old sophomore at LSU's Manship School of Mass Communication from Madisonville, had been drinking at Reggie’s, a Tigerland bar, where she met the 17-year-old, and left with him and the three other suspects, deputies said."

"Deputies said she had a blood-alcohol level of .319, nearly four times the legal limit to drive and enough to give someone alcohol poisoning and render them unconscious."

Where were Madi’s Alpha Phi sorority sisters who left without her? Sisters, in the loosest of loose definitions. Each girl with her that night who left without her should be ashamed of themselves. The rule is we come as a group AND we leave as a group. Girls, YOU MUST WATCH OUT FOR EACH OTHER, as well as (obviously) yourselves! Please dont ever abandon a sister while you’re out. Horrible things DO happen, and the combination of youth and alcohol makes you feel invincible. Sadly, youre not. Please please be safe and protect yourselves and each other.

I can't stop thinking about this poor girl and her family. Her death is so sad and so tragic and SO preventable. There are so many times in the timeline of this story that this could have been prevented with a roadblock or two that it makes my head spin.

Instead of pointing fingers and throwing blame, use your voice to let Madi's death be a valuable lesson to others. Girls should NEVER be out alone. Always have someone with you, especially when you are drinking. This could have happened to anyone and I can guarantee that parts of this story have happened to plenty...we just don't hear about it because this story happened to have such a tragic ending. STICK TOGETHER. Baton Rouge is a dangerous place and LSU needs to provide a safer place for students to hang out. Tigerland is in a horrible location.

She wasn’t out alone. Her sisters just didn’t care about her.

further to the above facts, according to the law as written, someone with a BAC that high cannot consent to anything. Period. that’s what the prosecution is going to try to get the jury to understand. Regardless of how anyone feels about that video, the law indicates guilt. And the defense lawyer knows that so he’s trying to cause confusion by releasing that video to the media.

As others have stated, those individuals could have made any other choice than the one they did which was to engage with a person who couldn’t consent to anything in her state, which is illegal. That woman is not on trial, they are.

Also assault is not a punishment for underage drinking or leaving/losing your friend at a bar. drinking underage and/or drinking too much is a learning experience. losing/leaving your friend at a bar is an accident/mistake. Assaulting someone is not a learning experience, an accident, or a mistake. It’s a choice to actively harm someone else, which is NOT just part of living, learning, and messing up. That’s the difference between this woman’s mistakes and those criminals’ choices; the former were innocent screwups that we all make as we grow up and the latter is malicious and abnormal behavior.

double posting to re-emphasize and make it totally clear that assault is NEVER a punishment. For anything. It’s NEVER deserved and should NEVER be “expected” or considered a “result” of ANY behavior, EVER. Assault is a choice, a malicious choice, by the assaulter.
