Drop recruitment advice below :))))))

Every single girl I’ve talked to who’s going through recruitment this year is stressed to the max about it. If ya went through it last year virtually or even when things were totally normal, I feel like all the pnms stalking greekrank (like me haha) would love to hear some of y’all’s experiences and tips about finding your sorority home.

Keep an open mind is the biggest thing. Most girls want to be in a “top” chapter just because people say it’s a top chapter! Understand, that doesn’t mean it’s the best chapter for you. They are top tier based on several factors like grades, years on campus, etc. I know girls who went into “top” chapters and hated it. Ignore the ranks, and focus on finding a place you feel comfortable. Also be ready to be cut. A lot of girls don’t understand that you are going to get cut… a lot. Rarely does a girl go into a round with the maximum number of invites back. You could literally get 4/12 back after ice water and understand it isn’t a bad thing. It’s so normal. You will never know why a chapter cut you and don’t dwell on it. They’re loss anyways. Focus on the ones who called you back because they want you, and you want to go somewhere you are wanted. First impressions matter, but we’ve done our research on you before you’ve walked in the door. Lastly, understand how the process works. You will rank chapters first round, but just because you rank someone as your first choice does not mean they won’t cut you. Just because you ranked
someone last does not mean you won’t get called back the next day. It’s an exhausting week, mentally and physically. It’s hard getting cut. Especially if you did so much in high school and had great grades. I’ve seen top of the class girls get cut from great chapters just because their competition was triple legacy who did the bare minimum in high school. If you aren’t a legacy get those letters of recommendation. They will help you. LSU chapters favor legacy girls and I promise you the rec will help your case.

Just because the chapter is “your favorite” doesn’t mean they think you will be a fit in their chapter. Many girls, including myself, initially thought you were in control of what houses you got back, and where you were running home to on bid day. That’s why we say keep an open mind because you aren’t. Remember, you are not initially cutting the houses, they are cutting you. If a house wants you back, you’ll come back. If they don’t want you back, you’ll get cut. If you want a house back, it’s up to them. If you want to cut a house, it’s up to them. This is pretty much up until the last round where it’s actually (for the most part) your choice. First round will be the biggest. Chapters might get only 400 girls to invite back to second round. If they have 1,200 pnms (that’s 800 girls with no invite back). The numbers get smaller each round. PC are about 130 girls. The number of invites back get smaller each round. If everyone got to chose where they wanted to go, you’d have like 500 girl PC in one chapter and like 100 in another. LSU system for the most part, evenly divides the new recruits per house, which is why you get cut from chapters. They can’t take everyone, so it’s their job to find the girls that best fit in with their standards.

Every day, as you look at your list of invitations, if your favorite is no longer on your list, choose a new favorite from the ones you still have, and put the old favorite out of your mind.

Remember that many national organizations changed their legacy policies last year, so legacies are NOT an automatic bid (and never was) and it is easier for groups to release legacies in most cases (don't have to get permission from their national headquarters, don't have to automatically invite legacies back, legacies don't get put at the top of the final list, etc...). So don't think you will automatically get a bid to your legacy chapter and act indifferent or rude in that house. They can release you and will release you if your vibe is "I've already got a bid from these folks, I don't have to try here!" Show respect to your legacy chapter if you want a bid from them.

@legacy’s advice is solid but I’ll add this - PNMs just be nice at EVERY house legacy or not. Can’t tell you how many PNMs I have seen come thru with an attitude because they were gonna be “XYZ”. Members remember - it’s funny on bid day to see those rude PNMs running to houses other than “XYZ”. So just remember you are a guest while in our houses - and you’d be lucky to receive a bid from any of the houses on the row. I get at Pref you may want to let a member rushing you know that you prefer another house over theirs - but there is a nice way to do it. “I am comfortable here and love that y’all invited me back but I really see myself being “ABC” instead.” I am lucky that I have friends in every house on the row - never hurts to just be nice!

chapters abolished their national legacy system. Almost every chapter at LSU dirty rushes. They’ll still have priority for legacies. They just won’t have to make it known.

So because those chapters demolished their legacy system and other houses didn’t, does that mean that legacies will have a hard time getting a bid from the house they are a legacy for AND the other houses?

I’m sure chapters will still take legacy status into consideration for selection. You put it on your registration. The abolishment just for looks. Let’s be honest. If a chapter wants to still fill spots will legacies first, they’ll find a way around doing it. They just won’t be noted as “priority”. If anything, it’ll make it harder for “legacy risks” because the chapter won’t have to keep them for certain rounds.

I think they mean based on the town you come from and what people generally think of you, and what they gather from social media. Terrifying!!
