My child got a bid from the fraternity he wanted. Not so with other friends' children including to parents of legacies who again got to the last round of parties with those fraternities. I am just wondering what changed between when I was an active and now. We never would have invited ten people total back in the last round and not give them a bid absent them doing something awful at the party. Sure hope you don't need money to fix up your houses again.

Thks. We all went to the Parents Orientation and were told by the Greek Life director, echoed by IFC, that he had only had to call less than 10 PNM in 5 yrs to tell them they had been released from rush. In each case the PNM selected 1 or 2 in the 2nd rd. not 6 and in Rd. 3 was left with 1 invite back or none. Thus if your son chose 6, then 3, he would end up with 1st choice, maybe 2nd. Not the case this year. If legacy had been cut in 1st or 2nd round, parents would have thought that's fair, not a good fit, etc. But to happen to several PNMs from different groups says system needs overhaul. Apparently lots of summer and early bids, something girls can't do. Beginning to think sorority system with recs and more rounds give a more level playing field. My Greek nieces and nephews could not believe it, not they way things happen at Ole Miss, Rhodes or Vanderbilt. Especially bad when the chapter officers are sons of your fraternity brothers. Very short sighted.

Dear Alums, the greek community appreciates your concerns and needs you now and always. You don't just have to give money to make a difference in your greek house. You can also give time. Due to 1997, when a pledge died, LSU overhauled it's policies and became much more strict. LSU didn't anticipate having to kick soo many fraternities off campus. As a result, when those organizations were allowed to return, they had to completely start from scratch with little Alumni support which fades when your organization can't be active for 5 years. Thus, these kids, only in college, have to learn how to build an organization through trial and error which can take perhaps a decade. My fraternity is only in it's 5th year. It's reloaded on quality people but they are unskilled as the skill building structures were destroyed when the organization was kicked off. Please comeback lend and share your experiences. Help!
