another sorority?
by: rumormillI heard a rumor that we're apparently recolonizing or adding another sorority to campus? Is this true and which one would it even be? I know there are a lot that could be recolonized like ADPi and AOPi, but do we even need anymore sororities at this point? I feel like we're approaching Bama status if we have too many more sororities.

LSU's Greek system only wishes it was as large as Alabama's. Alabama has over 20 sororities and LSU has 10. Not even close to their status. Congratulations LSU on finally getting with the program and expanding. They really need another 2 group on campus to get the pledge classes under control and to a manageable size.

Has 17 NPCs, but one (Sigma Delta Tau) doesn't participate in formal recruitment and isn't housed on sorority row.

i don't understand why having that many sororities is considered to be a good thing. do you know how competitive rush at bama is? When you increase your number of chapters, you're lowering your expected quota. Therefore, you have to make more cuts. Bama also has an insane number of girls who are released from recruitment all together, because they weren't able to play the crazy competitive politics game. that's not good

make any sense. If Bama had less sororities, they'd still end up taking the same number of girls, just distributed between fewer houses. If they had 10 chapters they'd all have 400+ girls, and the same number would be cut or quit because they thought their choices were beneath them. The number of chapters being bigger is, if anything an advantage for a really competitive Greek system, because otherwise they'd probably just cut more girls to keep chapter sizes reasonable. Look at Ole Miss, they just got a 10th house and their rush is so big that their classes are always around 130-140.

Bama has 16-17 NPC sororities. LSU has more than 10 if you count various cultural sororities. Ole Miss only has 10 sororities and is right up with Bama. Some Midwest schools have more sororities than Bama, but aren't better Greek systems. Number of houses isn't that important.
