greek life suspended?!

by:

What's the deal with Greek life being suspended along with all social events? How likely is it they will cancel everything for all sororities and fraternities. Prayers go out to Max's friends and family.

This whole event is so sad and heartbreaking. While I know my chapter has an event tomorrow night, I am completely fine with it being cancelled until further notcie. For safety reasons I can see why the president is shutting Greek life down for a hot second until the case is solved. I also think it is distasteful to host an event centered on around one of the main reasons Max died

Agree. Exchanges and grubs can be rescheduled. This is a horrible tragedy and I hope we never see this at LSU again. My prayers go out to this family.

If you really focused on the "consequences" then maybe each sorority would hold one non alcoholic function off campus.

I was on campus 2011-2015.

Your non alcohol events are the ones on campus. Try a non alcohol grub, exchange or semi formal!

Pretty sure the victim didn't die at a grub, exchange or semi formal.

I have to agree with Reality. The girls are also at fault on alcohol abuse. Maybe this is not out and out hazing but other schools do not seem to have the same issues as LSU. The culture needs to change.

If you watch the parade ground video you will see sorority girls on the side chanting LSU. How do I know they are sorority girls their buttons. If you blow it up you can see the name of the sorority. Out of respect I will not name what groups, but you can see it.

I stand with the Chancellor.

I looked at the video and I honestly couldn't see any button on the very few girls in the video. And why do you think these girls are at fault for alcohol abuse because they happened to be watching this fight just like everyone else in the video?

The girls at the start of the fight could have called the LSU police. Then again the one's chanting could have left the so called party.

Maybe those girls were actually the ones who called the police. You don't know. And why are you faulting them for not leaving the "party"? You are trying to blame them for something they had nothing to do with.

Are y'all seriously making this about YOURSELVES and your own sororities when the whole issue at hand is about an LSU Greek who DIED???!!!! Obviously, this student wanted to join our Greek community because he saw something special about LSU Greek Life. This isn't about "sororities drink just as much as frats." this is about being a Greek family and community, and supporting our IFC brothers in a VERY troublesome time. If you can't be mature about this situation, then dont comment on the issue at all.

You have no idea if he wanted to join because it was special. He probably wanted to join to fit in which is the exact reason why he passed away. Yes it was hazing, but boys join fraternities knowing they're gonna get hazed. All LSU frats haze. NONE of the sororities haze. Yes they need to investigate the boys, but the girls continue to stay away from it. If any culture needs to be changed, it is not the drinking in sororities and fraternities. We're in South Louisiana. Please. The hazing culture is what needs to be stopped. Choosing to drink is in your own hands. That is your own reaponsibility, but the forceful drinking is not. The forceful hazing is not. Now it is understood that guy pledges get hazed, but if anything needs to be stopped, it's this

My heart hurts for this family. It's about time that LSU takes long hard look at Greek life. These young kids think the rules don't apply to them. I hope the suspend all chapters for the rest of the year and permanently shut down this fraternity. I have never understood how hazing can "bond" Greek members. Anyone treating "brothers" to be cruel to each other then are expected to be friends after the pledging process is just twisted. I will strongly advise my children not to join a sorority/fraternity and find alternative means of socializing. It has just gotten too out of hand...

If a chapter does not haze, they should not be suspended. You shouldn't judge all sororities based on something a fraternity does. You shouldn't just all fraternities based on the actions of one. If you haze, you should get shut down. If you don't have, you shouldn't be punished for obeying the rules. I'm sorry. Greek life is an amazing experience, but you can let one bad apple ruin the bunch.
