by: not happy

I'm not happy in my sorority. It doesn't matter the tier that it is - I'm not in the right group for me. I don't feel comfortable. I have tried and tried. I'm not fitting in. Nothing I say or do is going to change it. I don't know what to do. My parents tell me just to stay in and be a less active member and that they will keep paying for it. I feel very unauthentic. I'm not sure what to do.

If you have not been initiated then you may drop and still have the option of rushing next Fall. Some chapters may see you as a quitter, and that will hurt your chances significantly. However, others have dropped and then had a successful recruitment the following year.

If you have been initiated, and your parents are willing to pay for it, you might as well stick it out a little longer. You can't ever join another NPC sorority again, so you might as well give yours a little more time. I found that I really bonded with my chapter during my first recruitment on the other side. Up until then I was sort of looking for my place. Sometimes it takes it until Recruitment to really feel that bond. I am so glad that I stayed.

You give up so much when you quit. It's too early for that. Give it some more time. Yes, our chapters do have personalities, but within every single chapter there is every type of girl. Give it some more time to meet others that are like you.

I'm sorry but there is nothing bonding about being on the other side of rush. That is when I almost deactivated. It is horrid. You hear how people really talk about other people. It was a horrible experience for me. And I know that it isn't just my house that does that.

I believe you and what you say happens in your chapter. I can definitely see how that could happen. However, I hope you will believe me when I say that it is not that way in every chapter. Mine, for one, is able to accomplish all that we need to do without the horrid experience that you describe.

If your parents are willing to pay for it, I would just deal. The odds of you getting a better house are very slim.

Unless you are completely miserable I would stick it out. Just be one of the more relaxed members.

No one has mentioned this but if you can't find any girls in the whole sorority that you have bonded with then the problem may not be the sorority. It may be with you. I'm just going to throw it out there that you probably wouldn't be happy in any sorority. My suggestion is to get over yourself and start concentrating on others.

Anytime I contribute my time to a group effort I am rewarded by getting to know more of my sisters better.

Stop staring into your phone, watching video, sending texts. Go volunteer and really contribute of yourself for others.
